Physical Therapist

Job Summary:

The Physical Therapist is responsible for directing physical therapy services, coordinating and supervising department operations, and administering physical therapy treatments as prescribed by physicians. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, maintains quality improvement activities, and manages department budgeting and performance. The Physical Therapist provides patient assessments, develops treatment plans, and collaborates with healthcare teams to optimize patient rehabilitation outcomes. Responsibilities:

• Direct and coordinate physical therapy services and department operations.
• Administer physical therapy modalities and treatments prescribed by physicians.
• Maintain and participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
• Ensure competency of all department personnel through training and evaluation.
• Assist in budget formulation, monitor department performance versus budget, and take corrective actions.
• Review and ensure accuracy and timeliness of patient charges.
• Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and regulatory laws and standards.
• Perform patient assessments, including neonate to geriatric populations, and reassessments as required.
• Observe and evaluate treatment effects and recommend changes to physicians when necessary.
• Develop and implement patient teaching plans involving family as appropriate.
• Manage and operate physical therapy equipment safely and maintain department cleanliness and safety.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members.
• Train hospital and departmental staff on physical therapy procedures and equipment usage.
• Participate in departmental and organizational meetings, including CQI and management meetings.
• Adhere to professional standards, ethical behavior, and organizational policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current California licensure or certification as a Physical Therapist.
• Minimum of three years' experience in physical therapy preferred.
• Knowledge of physical therapy modalities, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with all organizational levels.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and office equipment.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Additional language skills beyond English.
• Knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Experience with infection control, sterile techniques, and rehabilitative medicine equipment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to remain calm and respond effectively during crisis situations (e.g., Code Blue).
• Maintain neat, professional appearance and adhere to dress code.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule and shift assignments are determined by department needs and may require flexibility.
• Expected to report to work on time and complete assigned duties within designated timeframes.
