Volleyball Coach Seasonal, Joan Pisani Community Center, Saratoga, CA, US Salary Range: $25.75 To $36.05 Hourly Schedule SATURDAYS 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Summary The Coach is responsible for various aspects of the program, including assisting with organization of the program, recruiting, scheduling, training, conducting classes, clinics, and camps as well as motivating and coaching players in game strategies and techniques. The Coach will work with athletes at varying skill levels, with the first priority being to instill the fundamentals of the game. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Manage and conduct classes, clinics, and camps to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship. Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of players. Assist with planning and implementing the program’s instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall development of players. Work with other coaches toward a common goal within the program. Establish performance criteria to evaluate players’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis. Determine program strategy based on participants’ capabilities. Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic activity at all times. Takes all necessary precautions to protect players, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing and bullying. Maintain and secure all equipment and supplies. Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment. Organize seasonal schedule for upcoming seasons with Lead Coach. Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. Represent LGS Recreation in a professional manner. Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Lead Coach or appropriate administrator. Qualification Requirements Knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures. Knowledge of NFHS, AAU, and other sport‑related rules/regulations. Principles and practices of effective coaching techniques and skills. Rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Rules and regulations of competitive play. Standard safety practices. Ability to Instruct and supervise participants. Learn, monitor, and enforce relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. React to and handle emergencies in a safe and effective manner. Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with academy administrators, staff, parents, and participants. Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing. Communicate in spoken and written word. Relate to players and teach them on and off the court. Assess players effectively. Certifications First Aid/CPR/AED & NFHS Certification – must possess at time of hire. Education and Experience Coach – minimum of two years coaching experience (Middle School/High School experience preferred). Experience playing sport preferred. Assistant Coach – experience playing sport. One year assistant coaching experience preferred. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must have current certificates in CPR, First Aid, NFHS Coaching, Cardiac Arrest, and Concussion. Other Skills and Abilities Ability to abide by rules/regulations for competitive play. Physical Demands Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, jump, push and pull equipment. Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; run; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly work in an outdoor environment with occasional wet and slippery conditions.
