CTO & Cofounder at Mental Health Startup Are you a highly skilled and entrepreneurial technical leader with strong experience in NextJS and Typescript ? Do you have a background in guiding tech teams and are you prepared to take on a significant leadership role as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Cofounder ? We are a startup in the mental health space with an active user base of over 10,000 people per month . We're looking for a CTO and cofounder. We operate as a cooperative, a model that has been foundational to our company from the start. This means we are a collective of cofounders who together build and sustain the company. Revenue generated is distributed as cash and ownership amongst all cofounders in a fair and transparent manner. Within this structure, contributions vary; some cofounders dedicate specialized expertise for as little as an hour a week. However, the CTO role is distinct and crucial – one of the three most important leadership positions in our company. You will have considerable responsibility and influence in shaping our technical direction. The Immediate, Pressing Challenge Your first priority will be to resolve an ongoing issue in our user acquisition funnel. For several months, we've faced a problem preventing test-takers from consistently seeing their results and moving smoothly to the post-test funnel and payment wall. Our previous technical lead was unable to resolve this, and we've since partied ways. What We Need From Our CTO Thoroughly diagnose the problem and take clear ownership. Lead the effort to implement a working solution effectively and efficiently. Ensure the reliability of this core functionality, navigating existing complexities and delivering results. Your Role & Responsibilities as CTO & Cofounder Guide all technical aspects of the company: Develop and implement the technical strategy. Lead technical meetings: Oversee architectural decisions and promote sound engineering practices. Lead and coordinate our part‑time tech team: This requires strong communication and leadership to ensure collaboration and progress, given that team members have varied schedules. Contribute to hands‑on development: You will code, especially for critical systems, and guide the team (strong front‑end and back‑end knowledge is necessary). Ensure the platform's stability, scalability, and security. Work closely with product, design, marketing, and other cofounders. About Us We started our journey 10 years ago with a social app that paired individuals based on IQ and personality tests. We sold that company 8 years ago but recently reacquired it. We are relaunching it with a renewed focus on promoting mental wellbeing through self‑help groups. Our team includes psychologists, engineers, designers, project managers, and marketers. Tech Stack Our tech stack includes AWS servers, Docker, GitHub, Next.JS , Typescript , React , and Dart/Flutter. Deep existing knowledge of NextJS, Typescript, and React is essential. Compensation & Availability As a key leader, we anticipate an average availability of 15 hours per week. Compensation is primarily equity‑based , under terms comparable to all other co‑founders, offering a significant stake in the company's success. The initial cash component for all co‑founders, including the CTO, is only 10% of the total compensation package. As soon as we increase company revenue, we plan to increase this cash percentage for everyone in the company. This structure allows flexibility for other income sources while you help us grow. Company Ownership Our co‑founder cooperative model, with the potential to evolve into a DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organization), allows dedicated members to build substantial ownership through their contributions. Our company is based in Delaware, USA. Qualifications You are a highly proficient full‑stack developer, particularly with NextJS, Typescript, and ReactJS. You possess strong problem‑solving skills and demonstrable experience leading technical teams or projects, especially in environments with part‑time contributors. You are prepared for the responsibility and decision‑making that comes with a CTO and Cofounder position. You are primarily motivated by an equity‑heavy compensation structure and the opportunity to build long‑term value. You can dedicate an average of 15 hours per week to this role.
