About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief Program Officer for Policy, Research, and Prevention. This senior leadership role is pivotal in the organization's mission to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair and equitable systems of justice. The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight and management of program areas, including policy advocacy for legislative changes, data science and research on wrongful convictions, and strategic litigation to strengthen the use of science in the criminal legal system. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Program Officer will contribute to the overall direction and strategy of the organization, ensuring that the work in these areas is integrated and effective in achieving systemic impact. Candidates for this role should have a proven track record in criminal legal system reform, with at least 15 years of professional experience, and a strong understanding of state and federal policy advocacy, research, and strategic litigation. The role requires a leader who can align complex functions, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and build strong internal and external partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, with a preference for those who are current members of the New York bar or eligible for admission. A deep commitment to the values of the organization, including accountability, collaboration, empathy, compassion, equity, and a person-centered approach, is essential. The Chief Program Officer will also be responsible for managing and developing a high-performing team, fostering a culture of inclusion, and ensuring that the organization's values are upheld in all aspects of work.
