Expanded Practice Dental Hygienist - Fernhill Clinic

Overview Dental Hygienist – Integrated Clinical Services. In this role you provide direct periodontal and dental hygiene treatment, education, and disease prevention for clinic patients and the community while supporting the broader dental program’s operations, including infection control, sterilization, scheduling, and workflow improvement. Responsibilities Provide clinical dental hygiene services such as prophylaxis, debridement, scaling, root planing, periodontal charting, administration of topical and local anesthetics, radiographs, sealants, and fluoride varnish. Educate patients on preventive care, demonstrate brushing and cleaning techniques, and develop individual oral‑health plans. Prescribe fluoride and antimicrobial solutions and manage triage for emergencies. Consult with dentists for complex cases and refer patients for specialized care. Maintain strict aseptic controls and sterilization procedures in line with county safety protocols. Assist in central sterilization processes, ensuring instruments are properly processed and available. Document patient histories, charting, and medical information accurately. Meet productivity goals to sustain patient access and fiscal sustainability of the program. Participate in team and committee meetings to plan services and implement improvements. Provide indirect supervision of Expanded Function Dental Assistants. Qualifications Required: Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene. Active Oregon Dental Hygienist License with Local Anesthesia Endorsement. Nitrous oxide permit (obtained within one year of hire). BLS CPR Certification. Dental Hygiene Expanded Practice Permit. Preferred: Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations. Experience in an integrated or public‑health dental setting. Additional periodontal certifications or continuing education. Leadership or supervisory experience. Pay Hourly rate $47.82–$58.80, determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and adjusted for candidate experience and education.
