Victim Advocate Job Summary Provides advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, relationshipviolence, and stalking, complying with VAWA Federal Campus SecurityACT, Title IX regulations, and the Clery Act. Provides advocacythrough the criminal justice and judicial process. Helps victimsnavigate and receive resources, services, and support throughouttheir academic career. Crime Victim Advocates are subject to beingon call and/or called out to an active crime scene. Knowledge oflocal and state laws relating to domestic violence, datingviolence, stalking and IPV is necessary to fulfill jobduties. The Victim Advocate will work under the direction of theInvestigations Lieutenant, and work directly with UUPD Patrol andInvestigators to provide support and resources for victims of crimeon campus. Safety is a top priority for the University of Utah. The ChiefSafety Officer (CSO) for the University is the Director of PublicSafety and serves as chief of police services. The CSO isresponsible for overseeing the University's Department of PublicSafety, which includes the following operational divisions:University Police, Campus Security, Health Security, EmergencyManagement, Emergency Communications, and the centraladministrative Office of the CSO. More at publicsafety.utah.edu. Responsibilities Serves as point of contact for victims of crime on campus;resource and referral for students, faculty and staff. Provides case management and advocacy for victims of crimethrough the university processes as well as the judicial andcriminal justice process. Utilizes UUPD RMS system for case management. Serves as a resource for victims of crime for the systems of theUniversity (ex: registrar, financial aid academic affairs). Serves on relevant committees, task forces, and developmentgroups on campus and in the community. Consults on the development of current campus policies andprocedures on sexual violence in accordance with VAWA, Campus SAVEACT and other federal and state guidelines. Provides referrals to appropriate campus entities as counseling and health services to victims of crime. Collaborates with campus and community organizations to meet survivors' needs. Assist in filling and filing of protective orders for victims of crime Attends hearings and other court proceedings with victims of crime. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field orequivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two yearsof related work experience). Two years' experience providing directservice case management and crisis intervention for survivors ofsexual assault and/or interpersonal violence. Utah State CertifiedVictim Advocate (40 Hour Trained). In-depth knowledge of currentliterature and best practices regarding sexual assault andinter-personal violence. Excellent writing and professionalspeaking skills. Demonstrated ability to work with students andadministrators on sensitive topics. Master's degree (MSW or related field), working knowledge offederal regulations related to campus (VAWA, Title IX, CampusSecurity ACT), grant writing experience, and student affairsexperience are preferred. Preferences Previous experience with advocacy in law enforcement Experience working with an RMS system (Spillman) Previous supervisory experience Work Schedule Summary Schedule is to be determined,depending on department needs. Schedule may include Monday-Fridayafternoons, with paid on call and overtime shifts as needed.Weekends and holidays may be required.
