Clinical Lab Scientist I (Hourly/Intermittent) Apply now Job no: 553879 Work type: Staff Location: Chico Position Description Working under the supervision of a physician laboratory director or higher-level Clinical Laboratory Scientist, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist I (CLS I) is a licensed professional responsible for performing a wide variety of moderate to highly complex clinical laboratory tests and examinations. The CLS I provides medical staff with essential laboratory data for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness and disease within the university setting. Assignments typically include diagnostic testing ordered by licensed practitioners (e.g., urinalysis, pregnancy tests, blood tests, antibiotic sensitivity tests), specimen collection and preparation, interpretation of test outcomes, calibration and maintenance of equipment, and quality assurance in compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent, as defined by the California Division of Laboratory Science. Equivalent post-secondary education, training, and experience may be accepted. Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license (required). Preferences Experience in a Student or University Health Setting – prior experience in a university or student health center or with college‑aged populations. Cross‑Training in Multiple Lab Areas – experience assisting across multiple lab functions (e.g., hematology, immunology, microbiology), or ability to support CLIA‑waived testing or phlebotomy when needed. Commitment to Continuous Learning – demonstrating ongoing learning (continuing education, conferences, certifications, quality improvement involvement). Pay Plan: 12/12 CSU Classification Salary Range: $32.01 - $46.63 per hour. This appointment does not include health benefits for applicants not currently employed with CSU, Chico.
