About the Position

Job Title: Neurodiagnostic Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Neurodiagnostic/EEG Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift: 645 PM - 715 AM Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years inpatient experience, EMU experience License: N/A Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Registered preferred Description: The Neurodiagnostic Technician applies knowledge to produce high-quality neurodiagnostic studies. This role requires professional knowledge to meet or exceed department guidelines and standards. Technicians must have a thorough knowledge of neurodiagnostic practices and procedures. Core EEG functions include: - Routine outpatient and inpatient EEGs. - Prolonged routine EEGs to rule out ECS (brain death). - Long-term continuous EEG in patients. - Outpatient event monitoring. - Private VEEGs using the 10-20 system for electrode placement, adapting as needed for individual patients. Advanced EEG functions include: - VEEG inpatient event monitoring. - Monitoring multiple patients' EEG and video. - Making appropriate notations on the EEG record. - Actively evaluating patients during clinical events. - Notifying physicians and/or nurses as necessary. - Monitoring patients scheduled for ictal SPECT and assisting as needed. - Performing EEGs in the Interventional Radiology lab during procedures. - Intracarotid EEG recording. - Intra-operative EEG brain mapping. Quality and Safety Assurance responsibilities include: - Monitoring to prevent injury related to clinical events or falls. - Understanding mechanisms for notifying appropriate medical personnel. - Maintaining electrical safety during all neurodiagnostic testing. - Complying with established standards and infection control practices. - Being aware of potential risks that may affect recording interpretation. Education responsibilities include: - Providing patient education related to neurodiagnostic procedures. - Offering on-the-job training as appropriate. - Striving to improve competency and acquire new skills through continuous education and training. Non-EEG functions involve: - Conducting evoked potentials and SSEP testing.
