COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATOR I

Position Details Grade: 12 Location: MDH - Somerset County Health Department, 8928 Sign Post Road, Westover, MD 21871 Job Overview The main purpose of this position is to provide targeted nutrition education to improve healthy behaviors among rural residents. This position will deliver educational interventions in collaboration with partners. Minimum Qualifications Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, or Health Science. Experience: None. Alternative qualifications: Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and one year of experience in planning, developing, implementing, and promoting health education projects for the required education. Candidates may also substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Desired or Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of diabetes and other chronic diseases. Experience with public speaking. Understanding the social determinant of health. Familiarity with Somerset County. Bilingual skills. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. An employee assigned such duties must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland.
