Job Description

The Field Safety Manager supports field crews working on heavy-duty steel and wood structures, including utility poles, lighting grids, and telecommunication towers. This role requires frequent travel across multiple states to visit active job sites, conduct safety audits, and lead daily safety huddles with crews. The Field Safety Manager drives a company vehicle to various locations throughout the day and consistently leads by example to promote a strong safety culture on every work site.

Responsibilities

• Travel regularly across multiple states to visit active construction and field project sites involving steel and wood structures such as utility poles, lighting grids, and telecommunication towers.
• Conduct thorough daily safety audits on each job site to ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA standards, and other applicable regulations.
• Lead daily safety huddles with field crews to review job hazards, safe work practices, and any changes in site conditions.
• Monitor work practices on-site and immediately address unsafe behaviors or conditions, reinforcing a strong culture of safety.
• Provide guidance and coaching to crew members, supervisors, and leads on best practices for construction and field safety.
• Document audit findings, observations, and corrective actions, and communicate these clearly to project teams and leadership as needed.
• Collaborate with site leadership to develop and implement corrective action plans for safety issues identified during audits.
• Ensure that safety training, procedures, and compliance requirements are consistently followed across all sites visited.
• Promote environmental health and safety standards, including awareness of working in outdoor environments and alongside wildlife.
• Use a company vehicle safely and responsibly to travel between multiple job sites during the workday.
• Support long-duration projects, ranging from several weeks to several months, by maintaining consistent safety oversight and presence.
• Lead by example in all field activities, demonstrating proper use of PPE, adherence to safety protocols, and professional conduct.

Essential Skills

• Work travel experience, including frequent trips across multiple states to support field operations.
• Construction experience, with familiarity in field-based construction environments and practices.
• Safety experience on construction sites, including hands-on involvement in enforcing safe work practices.
• Audit experience related to safety, including conducting inspections and documenting findings.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety requirements, including OSHA 30-level understanding.
• Experience with safety training, compliance, and health and safety practices in construction or industrial environments.
• Background in construction or heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
• Ability to lead, manage, or supervise field personnel from a safety perspective.
• Willingness and ability to work approximately 60-hour work weeks as needed to support field operations.
• Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience supporting safety on projects involving solar installations or similar field-based energy projects.
• Environmental health and safety (EHS) experience, including awareness of environmental risks and controls.
• Experience in a manager, lead, or supervisor capacity within safety, construction, or industrial environments.
• Familiarity with long-duration projects, ranging from several weeks to several months.
• Strong communication skills to lead safety huddles and provide clear guidance to crews.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a company vehicle for daily travel between job sites.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role with start times typically between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., depending on project needs. Work schedules and days can be affected by weather conditions, as projects take place outdoors and may be adjusted for safety and operational reasons. Project durations range from approximately three weeks to six months, requiring flexibility and commitment over extended periods. The work environment includes exposure to the elements and outdoor conditions, and you will frequently work alongside nature and wildlife. Steel-toe footwear with ankle protection is required as part of the dress code; all other necessary personal protective equipment and work gear are provided. The role involves substantial time on active construction and field sites, as well as regular driving of a company vehicle between multiple locations during the workday.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baton Rouge, LA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $53.00/hr.
