CT Technologist - GLH - Per Diem - Rotation

Location: Geisinger Lewistown Hospital (GLH) Shift: Rotation (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 0 Worker Type: Regular Exemption Status: No Job Summary Under general supervision of the Radiologist and the following established duties and responsibilities, performs computed tomography procedures to acquire digital images for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Plans and performs all CT procedures and post processing using advanced technology based on clinical criteria, anatomy and established protocols. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned clinical area. Ensures protocols are based on ImageGently Guidelines and CT scanner’s integration into the program that compiles dose data from each scan performed and notifies the user when a scan exceeds specific preset levels. Responsibilities Obtains CT images according to established protocols; ensures patients are properly prepared, positioned, immobilized, protective shielding used when applicable, and correct technical factors selected. Performs I-Stat blood tests, translates results for contrast procedures and dispenses appropriate oral contrast to patients based on patient history and protocol. Performs venous access for patients requiring IV contrast administration as directed by a radiologist. Performs CT interventional procedures, acting as a first assistant scrub to the interventionalist, prepares sterile procedure trays, provides assistance and appropriate supplies for biopsies, drainages, aspirations, endo leak glueing and ablations, and maintains interventional inventory. Operates cryo, radiofrequency and microwave ablations, including equipment set‑up, machine operation and various probe use. Performs CTA imaging (carotid, head, vertebral, run‑offs, PE critical bolus timing) and advanced CTA studies such as trans‑catheter aortic valve replacement, endovascular aneurysm repair and cardiac imaging. Provides technical expertise to operate CT scanners, power injectors and computer systems to acquire images for use by the radiologist. Maintains knowledge of operating different CT systems at multiple locations and protocols based on ImageGently Guidelines and dose‑management programs. Maintains a vast knowledge of all clinical histories, major organ systems and vascular systems to produce quality cardiac images. Ensures all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized and in working order. Maintains working knowledge of pharmacology to ensure lab results are obtained prior to scheduled exams; determines possible drug interactions with IV contrast and monitors medications such as metformin and Glucophage for patients receiving IV contrast. Maintains knowledge of physics to lower patient dose on CT scanners; interprets technical factors to increase quality or speed of scans. Extracts pre‑cert patient and insurance information to schedule exams in a timely manner. Interfaces with ordering providers regarding correct exams to order, required lab tests and pertinent clinical information. Maintains inventory management system for CT supplies and inventory. Provides correct CPT coding and charges for patient procedures and supplies. Performs equipment quality control tests and notifies team leader and radiology maintenance of irregularities. Utilizes Life Image image management for scans received from outside hospitals and imports images to the picture archiving and communication system when requested. Handles imaging exams and procedure tray setup requiring access and handling of non‑controlled medications. Works in a clinical environment, satisfying all job‑specific obligations and complying with organization policies and procedures.
