What You’ll Need Graduation from a program approved by ARDMS. Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by ARDMS (must be obtained within 3 months unless the department leader has determined it is not required). Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by ARDMS (must be obtained within 3 months unless the department leader has determined it is not required). Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by ARDMS (must be obtained within 3 months unless the department leader has determined it is not required). Vascular Sonography (VS) registration issued by ARRT (must be obtained within 3 months unless the department leader has determined it is not required). Vascular Specialist (RVS) registration issued by CCI (must be obtained within 3 months unless the department leader has determined it is not required). Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by ARDMS (must be obtained within 18 months unless the department leader has determined it is not required). Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by CCI (must be obtained within 18 months unless the department leader has determined it is not required). Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within 6 months. What You’ll Do Position patients and select technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, using immobilization techniques as needed. Position, transfer and immobilize patients for procedures to ensure optimal quality exams are obtained. Operate portable ultrasound equipment when required for portable procedures throughout the hospital. Assist physicians by recommending optimal studies, suggesting technical factor selections for procedures. Responsible for securing pertinent patient history for each procedure, providing the radiologist with adequate information before interpretation. Obtain patient history to explain why the diagnostic test is being performed. Work closely with the radiologist when requested to ensure optimal outcomes. Maintain positive guest relations with patients, fellow employees, and personnel. Compliance with established accrediting organization and hospital safety standards to ensure patient and staff well‑being at all times. Maintain annual CPR certification. Operate all equipment safely, in accordance with hospital and department safety policies. Use standard precautions and protect self from bodily fluid exposure. Maintain hospital disaster, fire, and evacuation policy. Promote patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives. Attend mandatory in‑services and meetings. Documentation for department records to ensure adequate supplies and proper patient records. Maintain correct patient records and assemble daily patient schedules, preparing folders. Prepare ultrasound rooms, ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are available. Know and operate hospital information computer systems as required. Maintain awareness of current ultrasound skills and new developments in the field. Provide instruction and assistance to students or fellow technologists orienting in ultrasound. Treat all patients and customers with respect and compassion. Use appropriate phone etiquette. Provide an environment conducive to patient privacy.
