Senior Electric Utility Engineer

Positions Senior Electric Utility Engineer – two vacancies in Customer Development and Project Management divisions. Responsibilities Engineering Division Lead substation engineering and standards development supporting the Utility. Hands‑on substation design, construction, and standards development. Apply protection, control, communication systems, project management, and compliance knowledge. Resolve complex substation problems with minimal guidance; support day‑to‑day operations and compliance. System Expansion Division Support System Expansion Capital Projects, including large system expansion improvements. Work on four large system expansion projects (bid & construction) totaling $440 million. Hands‑on construction work for three receiving station projects and one 2.25‑mile 115kV transmission line. Assist with outage management, construction and contracts management, material procurement and tracking, and easement acquisition. Experience with large substation or receiving station projects and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with competing priorities. Assignments Incumbents are assigned to work in the operations, generation, transmission, planning, distribution, or substation groups of the Electric Utility Department as needed. Qualifications Electric utility engineering experience. Excellent project management skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Team‑oriented and capable of independent work. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 3 years electric utility engineering work. Or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 4 years electric utility engineering work. Or 10 years electric utility engineering work with satisfactory completion of a qualifying written examination. Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering may substitute for one year of experience. Evidence of equivalency for graduates of non‑accredited institutions. Professional registration as an electrical, mechanical, or civil engineer in California may substitute for accreditation equivalency. License Valid California driver’s license. Special Conditions May work unusual hours in emergency situations, as duty supervisor outside regular hours, or at sites other than the regular job site. Examination Requirements Fundamentals of engineering and science. Mathematics: algebra, geometry, complex numbers, trigonometry, calculus. Electrical theory, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, economic analysis. Salary Annual salary range $196,841.40 – $251,163.60. 4.5% wage increase effective July1, 2026.
