The pay rate will be $21.00/hr.

This is a part-time position working approximately 18 hours per week. The current scheduling need is Sunday through Tuesday, with Sunday availability required. Flexibility may occasionally be needed to support PTO, vacations, absences, events, and other store needs.

Reporting to the Manager, Discovery Shop, the Sales Associate supports the daily operations of a retail resale store, contributing to revenue growth and ensuring an exceptional customer experience. Core responsibilities include assisting customers and donors, efficiently operating the point-of-sale (POS) system, maintaining accurate and visually appealing floor inventory and displays, assisting with donation intake, and completing tasks assigned by the Store Manager. Provides direction to volunteers, particularly in the absence of shop leadership, and is a role model at all times. This role supports daily operations, contributing to a positive, customer-focused atmosphere while upholding the values and mission of the American Cancer Society.

This is a highly active, hands-on position in a busy Discovery Shop environment. Team members spend the majority of their shifts on their feet assisting customers, donors, and volunteers; processing donations; merchandising; and helping maintain and rearrange the sales floor. The ideal candidate will be proactive, adaptable, comfortable multitasking, and able to identify what needs to be done without requiring constant direction.

Essential functions include:

• Support for daily store operations, including cleaning and processing merchandise, setting up visually appealing displays, restocking shelves, assisting at the register, maintaining organized sales floors and fitting rooms, following opening/closing procedures, and performing routine cleaning tasks to ensure a welcoming shopping environment. In the absence of management, responsible for complete store oversight.
• Comprehensive donor support by receiving donations, assisting with unloading items from donor vehicles, placing donations in designated areas, issuing donation receipts, and accurately processing each donation in accordance with organizational procedures.
• Delivering exceptional customer service by providing welcome greetings, assisting with floor navigation, facilitating merchandise sales, ensuring accurate point-of-sale transactions, and offering carry-out support to customers' vehicles when needed.
• Supporting the execution of strategic initiatives, Discovery Rewards (loyalty) program, promotional events, and budgeting guidelines aimed at achieving and surpassing annual Revenue and Net Income Goals.
• Supporting the store manager in creating social media content and other marketing campaigns assigned.
• Communicating to customers and donors the mission of the American Cancer Society, toll-free number, and providing information about its direct services to the community.

Experience/qualifications:

• Minimum degree required: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred degree: Some college, including basic courses in business, mathematics, and economics is a plus.
• Years of experience: 2 years prior retail/service experience. Some leadership experience a plus (i.e. key holder, lead or above).
• Customer service, hospitality, nonprofit, volunteer-support, or other fast-paced service experience may provide relevant transferable skills for this role.
• Driver's license requirement(s): Valid driver's license not required but is a plus.
• Vaccine requirement(s): As required by government agencies for those working with the public.

• Ability to build positive working relationships with volunteers and provide guidance and support as needed.
• Adaptability, coachability, and willingness to learn new processes and adjust to changing store needs.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.
• Microsoft Office Suite operational ability (Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to learn and utilize retail software such as Point of Sale and reporting tools.
• Ability to consistently meet the current Sunday through Tuesday scheduling need and provide additional flexibility when possible.

Travel requirements:

• Occasional, infrequent travel for store visits, team or regional meetings, and local donation pick-up as appropriate.

Physical requirements:

• Frequent walking and standing and occasional sitting.
• Often bend, lift and move up to 25 pounds.
• This is a physically active position that includes frequent donation processing, merchandising, restocking, and rearranging merchandise throughout the store.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
• Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; bend; talk or hear.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
