Student Financial Services Counselor - Bursar

Position Description Summary/Purpose : The Student Financial Services Counselor is responsible forstudent financial support in the Student Financial Services’(SFS) Office. Working closely with Financial Aid to streamline joint procedures, the Student Financial Services Counselor will be responsible for all initial contact with students and their families, including processing of student relatedpayments, answering student financial aid/account questions, andproviding guidance as needed. Provides comprehensive customer service to all students andtheir families by phone, in person and through emailcorrespondence Posting adjustments Prepare lists for reconciliation of student accounts and otherresponsibilities associated with the administration of student accounts and 3rd party billing Process all student payments received by the University in allforms and delivery methods in a timely manner Oversee the processing and correspondence of all financialrelated paperwork delivered to the office by or on behalf ofstudents Manage the processing and correspondence for corporatereimbursement students Perform daily cash reconciliation and bank deposit Investigate disputed delinquent account balances; correct anyerrors, including misapplied payments and miscellaneouscharges Prepare journal entries for approval of requiredcorrections Process student health insurance waivers and help with otherstudent health insurance processes and reconciliations Other Functions All members of the Student Financial Services Office team assist each other with the following functions: Maintains confidentiality of information and works inaccordance with FERPA guidelines on the disclosure ofinformation. Counter coverage as needed, assisting student who come into the Center for assistance. Assist in the processing of mail Assist in the management of department schedule Continuing professional development and training; keeps currentwith trends. Assists other department staff as needed to promote a teameffort. Skilled in building positive relationships and maintainingstaff morale through effective team-building strategies. Proactive in addressing the needs of a diverse studentpopulation with empathy and tact. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with highereducation software platforms (e.g., Datatel Colleague, ImageNow)preferred. Experience with cash handling, account balancing, andreconciliation processes. Knowledge of Title IV federal regulations and financial aidprocesses; prior experience in Financial Aid or Bursar functionspreferred. Qualifications Minimum Required Qualifications : Associate degree in accounting or equivalent financial experience required; Bachelors Degree preferred Experience working at a college/university preferably in financial aid and with First Generation population as well as AdultLearners. Understanding of financial aid awarding and title IVeligibility for undergraduate and graduate students.
