Registered Nurse Shift Leader, Medical-Surgical Unit

Full Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Fort Loudoun Medical Center is equipped with a team of more than 200 doctors in more than 29 specialty areas. Our 87,000-square-foot hospital features advanced technology, including state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, Diagnostic X-Rays, and Women's Imaging Services, as well as Nuclear Medicine technology unique to our surrounding counties. The Medical Surgical Unit is a 46-bed telemetry equipped unit. The department services step down critical care, general medical, and surgical patients. Our staffing mix includes RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and HUCs. Our multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, therapists, nutritionists, case managers, and direct care staff meet daily to discuss patients conditions and progress toward their discharge plan. We serve a rapidly growing community with a wide age range. Our staff involves family in the care of the patient through participation and education of the patients medical condition. Position Summary:

This position is designed to provide supervisory leadership to staff level employees, coordinating such activities with the departments Manager. The incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgement and discretion in performing the duties listed below.

Responsibilities

1. Participates in performance appraisal of staff on applicable shift.
2. Participates in hiring process, including providing hiring recommendations to the Manager.
3. Prepares documentation for possible disciplinary actions and makes recommendations for such action to the Manager.
4. Provides recommendations to the Manager for commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate forms of recognition for outstanding performance of employees on applicable shift.
5. Makes work assignments and directs work activities. Coordinates staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
6. Projects staffing needs for next two shifts, coordinating adjustments in staffing level as needed.
7. Serves as clinical resource for all staff.
8. Checks the emergency crash cart or ascertains that the cart has been checked.
9. Provides shift report to next Shift Leader or Charge Nurse.
10. Participates in making work schedules.
11. Completes all charge nurse duties as specified in nursing policy.
12. Demonstrates competency in critical skills, including demonstration of competency in addressing the age-specific needs of the patient population served.
13. Provides professional nursing care on assigned unit.
14. Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience

Must possess at least one (1) year of professional experience.

Licensure Requirement

Must have and maintain Tennessee State RN license. CPR required.
