Facility Engineer

Job Overview The primary role of the Facility Engineer at The Charleston Place is to ensure proper maintenance and safety in accordance with hotel standards. The Facility Engineer is an advanced troubleshooter who steps in when a task exceeds the time or expertise of the Duty Engineer. Responsibilities Maintain accurate records of preventive maintenance and repairs. Perform advanced maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, and emergency repairs as assigned. Takeover jobs that exceed the Duty Engineer’s time, scope, or abilities. Maintain, repair, and care for the central plant. Adhere to safety, security, and emergency procedures, reacting appropriately during emergencies and acting promptly to correct hazards. Follow security procedures for guest room and master keys, boiler and electrical rooms, and proper storage of all chemicals. Listen to and resolve guest problems and complaints with a strong emphasis on customer service. Apply advanced troubleshooting and repair skills for electrical and plumbing systems, including drain line clearing. Utilize advanced carpentry skills. Apply strong mechanical skills for operation and repair of hotel equipment, and perform a variety of general maintenance repairs. Demonstrate a strong drive to overcome roadblocks and complete all assigned tasks. Clean and organize the engineering shop and workspaces. Keep the Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering promptly informed of all significant problems or unusual matters to facilitate corrective action. Required Skills & Experience Operate hand and power tools, such as drills, saws, drain cleaners, pressure washing equipment, and a wide variety of meters and testers. Read manufacturer instructions, blueprints, diagnostic trees, and discern various colors of electrical wiring. Make effective judgments on general repairs and maintenance, and solve guest and operational problems. Operate the work order program with detailed notes and job status. Operate software that controls HVAC and monitors the central plant. Communicate effectively with other departments (housekeeping, stewarding) to work towards a common goal. Be flexible with the schedule, stay teachable, and pursue personal development. Hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Have a minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience. Be SC or National CPO Certified. Be Universal EPA 608 Certified. Physical Requirements Lift equipment or supplies of at least 75 pounds. Resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Spend extended periods on your feet, especially during peak hotel hours or events. Have clear vision for reading labels, instructions, blueprints, reports, and analyzing data. Have good hearing to communicate effectively with the team via radios. Frequently sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach. Climb ladders, stand, walk, talk, and hear regularly.
