Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Aquatics Coordinator)

Summary This position is assigned to the Non‑Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness Division, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department, Naval Air Station JRB Fort Worth, Texas. Incumbent serves as a Supervisory Recreation Specialist responsible for the supervision, coordination, and economical operation of one pool. The purpose of this position is to ensure that all aquatics programs and activities operate efficiently and safely according to rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the operation of one pool, including all associated aquatics programs such as swim lessons, parties, special events, camps, swim team, swim meets, PRT, and related activities. Review patron usage and assess program needs; research and recommend program additions or changes with supporting data. Ensure programs are suited to site patronage and meet financial and time constraints. Provide a comprehensive aquatics program for Active‑Duty, families, Retirees, DoD civilians. Oversee maintenance of pool, facilities, pump house, equipment; maintain accurate maintenance records and water chemistry. Maintain internal controls over facilities, equipment, vehicles, supplies, and fees. Administer all safety programs and maintain a safe healthful environment for patrons and staff. Assist in preparation and administration of the annual aquatics budget; prepare necessary paperwork for purchases. Supervise day‑to‑day operation, ensuring staff (lifeguards, water safety instructors) keep required training and certifications. Administer written and practical water safety tests and maintain certifications. Staff during summer season: 3‑8 water safety instructors 3‑4 recreation aids Recruit, interview, select, orient, train, evaluate performance; counsel, issue disciplinary actions, recommend awards, approve leave. Operate swimming lesson program: planning, implementing, ensuring compliance with American Red Cross standards, maintaining records, reporting data. Monitor fund handling and ensure DARs are properly submitted. Perform lifeguarding duties; conduct Red Cross CPR/AED and first aid training for staff. Assist in other division events and MWR Fort Worth events as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge Required Ability to carry out aquatics programs independently with proper application of recreation principles. Skill in planning and conducting enhanced aquatics programming. Knowledge of effective lifeguarding procedures and techniques. Skill in teaching swimming and lifesaving techniques. Knowledge of water chemistry and machinery maintenance. Ability to comply with Navy Health and Safety requirements and program policies. Ability to develop and deliver presentations and trainings. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Background: Bachelor’s degree in aquatics recreation or at least three years of experience in pool operation; at least three years at Lead Lifeguard or Lifeguard Captain level. Knowledge of safe use, operation, maintenance, and repair of aquatics equipment and facilities. Supervisory Controls Works under the supervision of the Fitness Director. Uses initiative for daily assignments; receives general guidance. Subject to periodic spot checks. Supervisor provides advice on special problems or unusual situations. Conditions of Employment Meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and background investigation (fingerprint, background inquiry). Pass E‑verify employment verification check. Complete Personal Identity Verification (PIV) with two forms of identification. May be required to pass pre‑employment examinations. Valid State driver’s license required for vehicle operation. Salary must be sent via Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer. Selectee must be registered or exempt from Selective Service. All certifications and education must be uploaded. Qualifications Resume must provide experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities that match responsibilities. Demonstrated experience must be equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Minimum qualifying certifications include one of: American Red Cross Lifeguard YMCA Lifeguard certification U.S. Navy Rescue Swimmer School (Surface) U.S. Navy Rescue Swimmer School (Aviation) U.S. Navy Basic Underwater Dive School One of: American Red Cross CRP for the Professional Rescuer
