Transit Dispatcher

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Transit Dispatcher to schedule and coordinate vehicles and passenger trips; to dispatch vehicles; to provide information to the public and respond to customer questions and complaints; to monitor and respond to calls, including two-way radios and mobile phones; to verify and monitor staff locations; to record service calls; to prepare, prioritize and relay transportation requests, including emergency situations; to participate in a variety of administrative and clerical duties related to assigned area of work; and to perform technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in dispatch, transit operations, and/or customer service. Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Licensing & Certifications: Required: Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability. Preferred: A valid North Carolina, Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview and skills testing which may include; but not limited to, Outlook, Customer Service and Spelling, with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment background check, driving history check and a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen.

The City of Fayetteville Employee Healthcare Benefit Plan provides comprehensive and affordable health and dental coverage while maintaining reasonable costs to employees. Coverage is available for all regular status employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week. Employees may also choose to cover eligible dependents. The premium is deducted on a pre-tax basis, with the City paying a portion of the premium. Qualifying employees are eligible for benefits on the 1st day of the month following 30 days of service.

The City of Fayetteville assists employees in securing their financial future during retirement by participating in the NC Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System, administered by the State of North Carolina. Regular employees scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week become members in the retirement system upon employment. As a member of this system, employees are required to contribute 6% of their gross salary on a tax-deferred basis.
