Head Cook Fieldcrest CUSD 6 is seeking a head cook for the High School building. Hours are anticipated to be 7.5 hours per day and require flexibility. Qualifications include demonstrated aptitude for the successful completion of tasks in the fulfillment of the assigned responsibilities. Experience with school food service or the equivalent in food service in other institutions and/or firms is helpful but not required. Specialized training in dietetics, food service, and management is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Required clearances include a certificate of good health signed by a licensed physician, state of Illinois fingerprinting and background check in compliance with state code and district policy requirements, and food service sanitation certification. Training as required by law is necessary. Required skills include the ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds during the daily performance of the position, sit, stand, kneel, walk, carry objects, and use hand and power tools as necessary to adequately complete essential elements of the position, write and speak or otherwise adequately communicate in order to notify others of imminent danger, complete reports and communicate with supervisor, subordinates, students and other persons in the workplace, and organize work in order to complete assigned tasks. Brief Description of Position: Functions as the food service director for the building Maintains responsibility for providing each student and staff member, as desired, the opportunity to receive a nutritious and tasteful meal in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring Maintains proper food preparation and sanitation procedures Maintains accurate records and reports Must be cooperative with teachers, students, parents and community members Must be responsible in securing the kitchen and equipment at all times Must be willing to work additional hours when requested Performance Responsibilities: Implements and maintains a nutritional food program for students and staff, including breakfast and lunch daily when school is in session Assesses foods and prepares lunch menus which include the nutritional requirements of meals as required by state and federal law/rules Maintains documentation of Federal and State requirements and reports as required by federal, state, or local law/rule or by supervisor Completes other necessary clerical duties as required to complete the duties of head cook Maintains and monitors the point of sale service and meal tracking systems Rigorously follows and enforces all standards and controls for safety in the food service area Directs all food service workers in daily tasks Works with food service workers in order to accomplish the goals established in this job description Maintains food service sanitation certification, as well as any other certification that may be required by law or the district Receives and follows minimum training in state/health department endorsed food serving standards, meets all required food service certification and enforces these practices at all times Maintains proper inventory control and government commodity disposition Orders all foods and materials for the proper operation of the food service Explores and utilizes options to maximize efficiency and value for the food service program Coordinates with other district food service programs to leverage costs Notifies Director of Building and Grounds and/or Building Principal of necessary repairs to ensure proper program operation and sanitation Notifies Building Principal of emergencies Notifies Building Principal of events or concerns which may impact ability to complete food service tasks or which may disrupt the normal flow of the school schedule Is point of contact for the county Health Department Takes responsibility for correction of concerns noted by the Health Department during inspection or notifying appropriate personnel of the needed correction Gives copy of inspection reports to Building Principal and Superintendent upon completion of inspection Maintains effective working relationships with students, staff, and community members, and any representatives of agencies which have responsibilities over the program of operation Is courteous and polite with students, staff and co-workers, and the general public Follows and creates procedures to ensure the food production system safely and sanitarily provides nutritious food of maximum quality Arranges for the laundry of items such as towels and aprons Checks email daily; responds to email as necessary Completes and submits accurate time sheets in a timely manner Arrives punctually Remains on the school premises during school hours when scheduled to work Remains on school grounds when requested by either the supervisor or Building Principal Positive in interactions with all persons encountered during completion of work Follows all rules, regulations, policies, etc., pertaining to the completion of all facets of the position Follows established safety procedures at all times Performs all other duties as assigned Fieldcrest Community Unit School District 6 is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
