Come join our team as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist for the Public Health Central Laboratory, Newborn Screening Unit, in Decatur, GA. Under general supervision, performs a wide range of laboratory tests defined as high complexity by the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) in order to obtain data for use in medical diagnosis and treatment. Analyzes specimens, interprets and records testing results, and reports findings to designated personnel. Repeats tests as necessary to ensure accuracy and consistency of results.

Job Responsibilities:

• Analyzes newborn screening dried blood spot specimens for various genetic and metabolic conditions, including Cystic Fibrosis, Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disorder, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and other genetic conditions.
• Test specimens using a variety of techniques, including fluorescent immunoassays, tandem mass spectrometry (MSMS), high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), real-time PCR and enzyme assays.
• Performs and documents all required maintenance on instruments and equipment.
• Performs quality assurance duties in accordance with procedures in the Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) Manuals, as specified by state and federal licensure laws.
• Participates in special project assignments, such as the evaluation and validation of assays for new disorders or second-tier screening.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree in a related science area from an accredited college or university, certification as a Medical Technologist, MT (ASCP), and three (3) years of job-related science experience; or Associate degree and two (2) years of experience at the lower level Medical/Clinical Specialist 2 (LSP011) or equivalent position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification as a medical technologist, MT (ASCP or equivalent).
