Security Training Supervisor

Position Summary

The Security Officer Training Supervisor is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and monitoring training and compliance requirements for security personnel assigned to the healthcare security program. This position ensures officers and supervisors receive the knowledge, skills, certifications, and site-specific training necessary to perform their duties safely, professionally, and in accordance with company standards, hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and contractual expectations.

The Training Supervisor must maintain a flexible schedule and be available to work and conduct training across all shifts, including first, second, and third shifts, as well as weekends when necessary , to ensure consistent training and development opportunities for all security personnel.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

On-Site Security Officer Training

• Conduct initial and ongoing on-site training for security officers and supervisors.
• Coordinate and oversee new officer training and site orientation.
• Train officers across all shifts to ensure consistent standards throughout the security operation.
• Ensure newly assigned officers understand post orders, emergency procedures, hospital policies, security protocols, and customer-service expectations.
• Provide hands-on training covering patrol procedures, access control, visitor management, emergency response, incident reporting, patient interactions, de-escalation, and other site-specific responsibilities.
• Conduct refresher and remedial training when performance deficiencies or operational concerns are identified.
• Maintain documentation confirming completion of required training.

Patient Restraint Training

• Provide security officers with training on their roles and responsibilities when assisting clinical staff with patient restraints.
• Train officers on approved restraint procedures and techniques, including safe application and removal practices within the scope of Security's responsibilities.
• Reinforce that patient restraints are conducted under the direction of authorized clinical personnel and in accordance with hospital policy.
• Train officers on safe positioning, team communication, officer assignments, and coordination with clinical staff during restraint events.
• Reinforce techniques designed to reduce the risk of injury to patients, security officers, and hospital staff.
• Conduct practical restraint exercises and scenario-based training to maintain officer competency.
• Provide refresher or remedial restraint training following incidents, identified performance concerns, or changes to hospital procedures.
• Document officer participation and completion of required restraint training.

MOAB Training

• Coordinate and conduct Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training and recertification for security personnel.
• Maintain accurate records of MOAB certification and expiration dates.
• Provide instruction in de-escalation, conflict management, personal safety, and approved physical intervention techniques.
• Schedule refresher training to maintain officer competency and compliance.
• Review incidents involving aggressive behavior or physical intervention to identify additional training needs.

CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Response

• Coordinate CPR, First Aid, AED, and other required emergency-response certifications.
• Track certification expiration dates and schedule recertification before credentials expire.
• Maintain accurate documentation for compliance reviews and audits.
• Assist with emergency-response drills and exercises involving security personnel.

Training and Compliance Tracking

• Develop and maintain a centralized training and compliance tracking system.
• Monitor certifications, security licenses, annual training, hospital-required education, MOAB, CPR/First Aid, fit testing, restraint training, and other mandatory requirements.
• Provide management with regular reports identifying completed, upcoming, expired, and overdue requirements.
• Follow up with officers and supervisors regarding outstanding training.
• Maintain training records in an audit-ready condition.

New Training Development and Implementation

• Identify training opportunities based on incidents, officer performance, client feedback, policy changes, and emerging security risks.
• Develop and implement new training programs specifically designed for the healthcare security environment.
• Create training materials, presentations, scenarios, practical exercises, and competency assessments.
• Coordinate implementation of new policies, procedures, technologies, and security initiatives.
• Conduct roll-call and shift-level training to communicate operational changes.
• Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements.

Quality Assurance and Officer Development

• Conduct periodic observations to ensure training standards are being applied in the field.
• Provide coaching and constructive feedback to improve officer performance.
• Identify officers requiring additional development and establish remedial training plans.
• Assist with developing officers interested in advancement into Lead Officer, Supervisor, or other leadership positions.
• Support mentorship and continuing professional development initiatives.

Incident Review and Continuous Improvement

• Review significant security incidents to identify training opportunities.
• Participate in incident debriefs and after-action reviews.
• Develop targeted training based on lessons learned from Code responses, patient interactions, restraints, workplace violence incidents, and emergency situations.
• Recommend changes to training, post orders, or operational procedures when recurring trends are identified.

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities

• Maintain training schedules, attendance records, certification documentation, and training reports.
• Maintain a flexible schedule and work first, second, and third shifts as necessary to provide training and evaluate officer performance .
• Communicate training requirements and compliance concerns to security management.
• Coordinate training without unnecessarily disrupting security operations or staffing.
• Assist management with client, regulatory, and internal compliance audits.
• Serve as a subject-matter resource regarding training requirements and security procedures.
• Promote professionalism, accountability, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the security department.

Key Performance Expectations

Success in this position will be measured through maintaining high training and certification compliance, reducing expired credentials, improving new-officer readiness, maintaining competency in patient restraint procedures, completing required training on schedule, identifying and correcting training deficiencies, and demonstrating measurable improvements in officer performance.

The Security Officer Training Supervisor is expected to ensure that every security officer, regardless of assigned shift, receives consistent training and is properly certified, operationally prepared, and capable of safely performing their assigned responsibilities within the healthcare environment.
