Extra Help/Special Events Police Officer

Overview West Sacramento Police Department seeks experienced law enforcement professionals to join part‑time Extra Help/Special Events Police Officers, supporting special events and operations. Key Responsibilities Provide law enforcement presence and security at A's games. Support operations at River Cats games and other special events. Assist with jail transport duties. Support full‑time police officers during peak periods. Essential Functions (Illustrative) Provide enforcement at special events such as baseball games, concerts, and other crowd gatherings or traffic congestions. Participate in community outreach and homeless outreach efforts. Conduct jail transports. Patrol designated areas, by foot, bicycle, or other means to preserve law and order. Prepare a variety of reports including activity reports, operations, arrests, unusual incidents, investigative reports and case information. Apprehend and arrest offenders for crimes under federal, state, and local laws and codes. Control and mitigate people under the influence of drugs or alcohol or other potentially hostile situations. Investigate complaints and take appropriate action, which may include use of deadly or non‑deadly force. Establish and preserve good relationships with the general public. Enforce parking regulations; issue warnings and citations for code violations. Observe, monitor and control routine and unusual traffic conditions; assist and advise motorists. Discover and prevent the commission of crimes and enforce laws and ordinances. Maintain awareness of and remain alert for wanted suspects, known criminals, stolen vehicles, missing persons, and crimes in progress. Conduct investigations at scenes of incidents to determine what, if any, crime has been committed. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skill. Typical path: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Equivalent of ten (10) years full‑time experience in a municipal or general law enforcement agency, currently employed as a full‑time or part‑time peace officer with a California law enforcement agency; or currently working as a Level I reserve police officer; or retired as a full‑time peace officer. Licenses and Certificates Valid California driver’s license. Current and valid California Intermediate POST Certificate (or higher). Physical Demands Must possess mobility to perform policing duties, operate motor vehicles in emergency situations, and operate standard office equipment. Must be able to drag a body up to 165 pounds, lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 165 pounds, and wear utility belt or vest and other police equipment of 30 pounds. Must meet visual, auditory, and other sensory acuity requirements. Must remain firearms qualified. Working Conditions Employees work primarily in the field and may be exposed to loud noise, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, road hazards, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous chemicals. May also work in an office environment with moderate noise.
