Tumour Portfolio Director, OBU Medical Affairs

As Tumor Portfolio Director, you will drive the strategic planning and execution of our GU/GYN medical portfolio, transforming strategy into coordinated delivery across regions and functions. Based in Gaithersburg, US, you will report to the Project Management Team Leader for Global Medical Affairs and partner closely with the GU/GYN franchise lead to ensure the portfolio works as one—from evidence generation and launches to scientific exchange and congress activity. Your leadership will empower teams to deliver the right work at the right time, with transparency, accountability and measurable impact.
In your first year, you will unify the tumor strategy across indications, stand up clear portfolio dashboards, streamline governance and ways of working, and coach a small team of Indication Project Managers to peak performance. The result: faster decisions, sharper prioritization, and a consistent focus on value for patients, clinicians and the business.
Accountabilities:
Tumor Portfolio Strategy: Partner with the GU/GYN Franchise Head to execute a cohesive tumor strategy across indications, enabling seamless global and local delivery.
Budget and Workforce Planning: Lead forecasting, phasing and prioritization for the franchise, aligning resources to strategic goals across the planning cycle.
Evidence and Launch Planning: Orchestrate core deliverables including Medical Plans, Evidence Generation plans, study proposals, launch plans, congress plans and scientific exchange plans.
Portfolio Visibility: Create and maintain dashboards that track progress against scorecard objectives, enabling data-driven decisions.
Team Leadership: Manage, train and develop a small team of Indication Project Managers; assign responsibilities, build trust and mentor for high performance.
Medical Implementation Enablement: Ensure Medical Implementation Teams operate efficiently and stay connected with Integrated Business Teams.
Medical Standards and Compliance: Drive adoption of medical standards to ensure compliant, consistent operations.
Portfolio Governance: Lead agenda-driven meetings with GU/GYN portfolio leadership, shaping agendas, capturing decisions and tracking actions to closure.
Executive Communications: Coordinate senior leadership presentations on key topics and initiatives, spotlighting progress, risks and decisions needed.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and embed best practices to simplify processes and accelerate delivery.
Enterprise Change Leadership: Lead workstreams that drive improvements and change across broader medical and enterprise teams.
Essential Skills/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business or life science
Minimum of 7 years experience in pharmaceutical industry or regulated medical products industry
Minimum of 3 years experience in Medical Affairs, Commercial, and R&D organizations (Global, regional, or local)
Minimum of 3 years demonstrated project management experience in a matrix environment
Experience working with senior stakeholders
Comprehensive understanding of the development and commercialisation of pharmaceutical products
Experience of successful influencing cross functionally, cross-culturally and cross-brands
Experience of effective working in a multi-cultural, matrixed environment
Experience working in a global setting, managing stakeholders within different time zones
Experience preparing and/or delivering presentations to executive leadership
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Skilled in change management including process development and implementation, people development, organizational effectiveness, and communication
Able to deliver high quality work outputs despite ambiguity or ever-changing environment
Delivery focus with an ability to oversee and manage multiple project deliverables in very short timelines
Interpersonal skills with an ability to display a variety of leadership styles dependent upon the situation
Evidence of the ability to pull together diverse teams over whom there is no line management responsibility in a matrix environment (ability to influence and drive for results)
Demonstrated knowledge and very wide understanding of global business context
An excellent communicator; evidence of strong independence and innovative seeker of strategic solutions; forward looking
Strong leadership attributes to clarify strategic direction, generate commitment, balance short and long-term needs, resolve differences constructively, and reinforce expectations
Desirable Skills/Experience:
People management experience preferred
Graduate level degree in sciences or business
Six Sigma Medical/Process Excellence and/or Project Management/PMP/FPX certification
Depth of understanding of medical, scientific and/or commercial pharmaceutical marketplace of Oncology

The annual base pay for this position ranges from US $149,805 & $224,708 Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives- an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
