Production Manager

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Production Manager to oversee final assembly manufacturing operations across facilities in California and Texas. This individual will be responsible for managing daily production activities, leading manufacturing teams, maintaining quality and safety standards, and driving operational efficiency across multiple locations.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in electronics, electromechanical, or advanced manufacturing environments, with demonstrated success managing production teams, improving manufacturing processes, and meeting production targets.

This position requires a highly engaged leader who is comfortable working directly on the production floor, managing operations across multiple facilities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business objectives.

Approximately 50% travel between sites is expected in this role.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities-

Production Operations & Site Management

• Manage daily final assembly manufacturing operations across California and Texas facilities, ensuring production schedules, quality standards, and delivery commitments are consistently met.
• Develop and manage production schedules, workforce allocation, and capacity planning to support manufacturing requirements.
• Monitor production performance, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and throughput.
• Establish and maintain standardized operating procedures, quality checkpoints, and safety protocols across assigned facilities.
• Maintain a strong presence on the production floor to support manufacturing teams and resolve operational challenges.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop production supervisors, team leads, and assembly personnel across multiple manufacturing locations.
• Establish clear performance expectations and hold production teams accountable for productivity, quality, safety, and operational objectives.
• Partner with Human Resources to support workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and employee development.
• Conduct employee performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and identify opportunities for team development.
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, workplace safety, and continuous improvement.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Partner with Quality Engineering to investigate production issues, resolve non-conformances, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and increase production efficiency.
• Monitor key performance indicators, including production output, first-pass yield, labor efficiency, scrap rates, and on-time delivery.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, internal quality standards, and applicable manufacturing requirements.
• Support standardized manufacturing processes and continuous improvement initiatives across both facilities.

Supply Chain & Cross-Functional Coordination

• Collaborate with Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure materials, equipment, and resources are available to meet production requirements.
• Address component shortages, supplier quality concerns, and production scheduling challenges.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including production readiness, process implementation, and manufacturing transitions.
• Coordinate with Engineering to resolve technical manufacturing issues and implement process improvements.
• Communicate production updates, operational challenges, and resource requirements to senior leadership.

Budget Management & Operational Performance

• Manage assigned production budgets and monitor operational expenses across manufacturing facilities.
• Track labor utilization, manufacturing costs, scrap rates, and production efficiency to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Prepare production performance reports and provide regular operational updates to senior leadership.
• Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing capacity, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.
• Support capital equipment planning and manufacturing improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent manufacturing leadership experience will be considered.

Experience

• 7+ years of progressive manufacturing experience, including at least 3-5 years in a production management or manufacturing leadership position.
• Demonstrated experience managing final assembly operations within electronics, electromechanical, industrial equipment, or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Experience leading production supervisors, team leads, and manufacturing personnel.
• Previous experience overseeing multiple manufacturing facilities or coordinating production operations across multiple locations strongly preferred.
• Experience working in high-mix, low-to-medium-volume manufacturing environments preferred.
• Demonstrated success improving production efficiency, implementing process improvements, and meeting manufacturing performance objectives.

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems for production planning, inventory management, and scheduling.
• Familiarity with electronics assembly, PCB integration, electromechanical systems, or related manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of manufacturing quality standards, workplace safety requirements, and OSHA regulations.
• Experience monitoring production KPIs, managing labor resources, and controlling manufacturing costs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for production reporting and operational analysis.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills

• Strong hands-on leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate manufacturing teams across multiple locations.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing production demands.
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and senior management.
• Demonstrated ability to establish accountability, develop employees, and maintain consistent operational performance.

Travel Requirements

This position requires approximately 50% travel between manufacturing facilities in California and Texas. Additional travel to supplier facilities or customer locations may be required.

Candidates must be comfortable maintaining an active presence at both manufacturing locations and traveling regularly to support production operations.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on manufacturing leadership position requiring regular interaction with production teams and direct involvement in daily manufacturing operations.

The Production Manager will spend significant time on the production floor and must be comfortable working in active manufacturing environments, following established safety procedures, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

Compensation: $150,000-$190,000 annually
