Job Full Description Express Employment Professionals is seeking experienced and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operators for a local company in Cape Girardeau, MO.
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery to support site preparation, earthmoving, construction, and material handling activities. The ideal candidate has strong equipment operation skills, a commitment to workplace safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery to support site preparation, earthmoving, construction, and material handling activities. The ideal candidate has strong equipment operation skills, a commitment to workplace safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, motor graders, dump trucks, and other machinery as assigned.
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, material handling, and site preparation work.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, or safety concerns.
- Follow project plans, site specifications, and supervisor instructions.
- Load, move, and distribute materials efficiently and safely.
- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
- Work alongside construction crews and other team members to complete projects on schedule.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and housekeeping duties.
- Complete required documentation, inspections, and equipment logs.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in construction, excavation, mining, utility, or industrial environments.
- Ability to read and understand site plans, safety procedures, and work instructions.
- Strong understanding of equipment operation, safety practices, and job site awareness.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred for certain assignments.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, and maneuver on uneven terrain.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to safely enter and exit heavy equipment multiple times throughout the workday.
- Ability to maintain focus and awareness in active construction environments.
- Experience operating excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, or other heavy equipment.
- OSHA 10, OSHA 30, MSHA, or other industry-related certifications.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Experience with utility, road construction, site development, or excavation projects.
- Construction sites, industrial facilities, road projects, utility projects, and excavation sites.
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to dust, noise, weather, and heavy machinery.
- Overtime, weekend, and travel assignments may be required based on client needs.
