Customer Service Representative We are working with the State Of Rhode Island to hire a Customer Service Representative to provide top‑tier consumer support for the Public Utilities Commission. This position is ideal for an individual who excels at clear communication, effortlessly manages consumer inquiries regarding utilities, and is eager to enforce consumer protection rules across electric, gas, water, telephone, and cable utilities. Compensation $22 per hour, 35 hours per week Key Responsibilities Receive and respond to incoming public correspondence via telephone, letter, or email to answer billing and general service questions. Receive and investigate consumer complaints against municipal and public utility companies. Explain applicable rates for all regulated utilities clearly to customers. Plan, schedule, organize, and conduct informal and formal evidentiary hearings. Maintain full responsibility for ensuring hearings are conducted in a fair and orderly manner. Prepare written reports, recommendations, and formal findings concerning evidentiary hearings. Act as the primary agency consumer and utilities contact. Qualifications Experience must include employment in a responsible position involving customer service techniques, strategies, and approaches. An equivalent combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent will also be considered. A working knowledge of the rules and regulations developed by the PUC pertaining to consumer protection is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and deal courteously with the public. Proven ability to resolve consumers' concerns and complex utility problems efficiently. Ability to fully understand and carry out written and oral directions from superiors. Formal education requirements include graduation from a senior high school, or a substantially equivalent combination of education and experience.
