Senior Backend Engineer

Aloft (formerly Kittyhawk) makes it easy to manage a drone program that’s safe, compliant, and reliable. Our platform consists of easy-to-use mobile apps, desktop tools, and an API that keeps teams flying safe and their data organized. Companies use Aloft to manage their fleet, fly missions, and capture data.

We’re looking for a driven, detail-oriented Senior Backend Engineer capable of tackling advanced system problems and contributing heavily to our system architecture. They’ll need to be an experienced backend leader and problem solver, used to working at a startup, and able to lead projects that are pivotal for developing the foundation of our fleet management platform.

Role

• Manage multiple projects from beginning to end
• Participate in developing architecture designs, standards, and technologies 
• Develop endpoints and or services in partnership with other engineering teams
• Implement and deliver solutions to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency 
• Engage in system planning and performance analysis
• Maintain and improve the CI/CD processes

Requirements

• 5+ years of production PHP application experience (not just web development)
• Deeply familiar with REST API’s and HTTP specifications
• Advanced proficiency with Laravel or Symfony framework
• Familiarity with database and enterprise design patterns
• Extensive experience with testing frameworks (PHPUnit, PHPSpec, Behat)
• Ability to move between separate projects
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

• Experience in DevOps management
• Experience with automation frameworks (Ansible, Terraform)
• PostGIS and Geospatial operations
