Functional Medicine Medical AssistantFunctional Medicine is an innovative approach to health and wellness. The Functional Medicine Medical Assistant supports the functional medical providers and nurses and assists with providing care and tools designed to optimize patients' health.Essential Functions Statement(s)Primary Functions:Rooming patients for providers, including chart prep, vital signs, med reconciliation and PHIRecords patients' medical history, vitals, and information such as test results in medical recordsResponding to communications from providers, coworkers, patients, pharmacies, and other medical professionals and relaying provider orders and/or results for medications, labs and imaging.Enters orders in the EMR as authorized by the providerPerforming care-related tasks such as therapeutic injections as directed by providersExplains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider's instructions to patientsDocuments all communications and care provided to the patient in their medical chart including codes for billable servicesRefills medications and obtains insurance authorizations as ordered by the providerScans external documents into patient record as neededProvides cross coverage on the IM clinic floor as neededEnd of Day: Assists with clean up in the team room; cleaning and stocking rooms, closing assigned area, and other end of day activities as assignedMaintains a clean and orderly work areaAdheres to HIPAA guidelines regarding protected health informationMaintains knowledge of and adheres to all standards for Universal Blood and Body Fluid precautionsMaintains proficient knowledge of organization emergency proceduresParticipates in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operationsOther duties as assignedPosition QualificationsCompetency Statement(s)Communication, Oral - Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word.Communication, Written - Ability to communicate in writing clearly and concisely.Confidentiality - Must maintain strictest confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations and policies.Customer Oriented - Ability to take care of the customers' needs while following company procedures.Decision Making - Ability to make critical decisions while following company procedures.Detail Oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.Ethical - Ability to demonstrate conducts conforming to a set of values and accepted standards.Friendly - Ability to exhibit a cheerful demeanor toward others.Initiative - Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.Judgment - The ability to formulate a sound decision using the available information.Organized - Possessing the trait of being organized or following a systematic method of performing a task.Patience - Ability to act calmly under stress and strain, and of not being hasty or impetuous.Problem Solving - Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.Responsible - Ability to be held accountable or answerable for one's conduct.Self Motivated - Ability to be internally inspired to perform a task to the best of one's ability using his or her own drive or initiative.Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)Experience: One or two years medical office experience preferredSkills & AbilitiesComputer SkillsElectronic medical recordsFamiliarity with social media platforms
