Job Description Transportation Maint Tech I or II (2601458) – TxDOT Fort Worth District. Positions based in Fort Worth. All training, tools, uniforms provided. Pay ranges: $40,918 – $61,130 per year for Tech I; $42,976 – $64,469 per year for Tech II. Key Information Job location: South Tarrant County, 2540 Edgecliff Road, Fort Worth 76133 Shift: Day; requires 5% travel. FLSA status: Nonexempt; yearly pay. Work schedule: Full-time. Weekend and holidays required. Hours other than 8-5 required. Physical demands: Outdoor; extreme cold or heat; vibration; hazardous conditions; 50 lbs lift. Responsibilities Assists in identifying, repairing, and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts; basic welding as needed. Supports law enforcement at accident sites; assists stranded motorists. Traffic control – places and gathers cones, warning signs, barricades; flags traffic. Maintains highways/Roads – repairs, guard rails, markers, signs; hauls materials to sites. Moves/picks up litter and debris. Operates light equipment (front-end loader one, pneumatic roller, etc.) and heavy equipment (larger backhoe, haul truck, etc.). Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing, minor repairs; submits reports (timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, PMI). Sands/cleans bridges, roads; posts warning signs; assists during emergencies (floods, tornadoes, etc.). Inspects construction methods and workmanship for compliance with standards. Other job responsibilities as assigned. Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II Serves as sole maintenance contract inspector on small projects. Inspects traffic control devices and placement per specifications, safety laws, and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Skilled roadway repairs; heavy equipment operation (front-end loader 1½ cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint stripper, dump truck). Other duties identical to Tech I, with expanded responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications Education: Not specified. TMT I – No experience required. TMT II – 1 year experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work. Experience can be satisfied by part‑time equivalent; technical training may substitute for experience on a one‑to‑one basis. Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license; must obtain commercial Class A CDL with “N” endorsement within 120 days of employment. Preferred Qualifications Commercial Driver’s License. Knowledge of intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance; materials; Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; safety standards. Skill in prioritizing work assignments, using hand and power tools, operating highway equipment, maintaining effective relationships. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Subject to indoor/outdoor conditions, extreme cold or heat, noise, vibration, moving vehicles, high places, chemicals. Protective gear required (respirator, hard hat, etc.). Lift up to 50 lbs; frequent 25 lbs lifts. Walking and moving on foot over long distances. Pre‑employment physical and drug test required; random testing applies. Must report within 60 minutes of emergency notification on a 24‑hour basis.
