Opportunity Overview

Our organization is excited to announce an opening for a fellowship-trained head and neck oncologic surgeon/microvascular free flap surgeon. This position is part of a dynamic and expanding team of specialized surgeons within a collaborative otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (OHNS) department, located at a leading medical center in San Francisco, CA. Our practice combines the benefits of community-based private practice with the extensive support of a large multispecialty organization, alongside a dedicated team of physician assistants and nurse practitioners focused on patient care.

The surgical team consists of six experienced surgeons, including:

  • Director of OHNS and head and neck oncologic surgery: William Ryan
  • Specialist in head and neck oncologic and microvascular free flap surgery: Patrick Carpenter
  • Laryngology, voice, and swallowing expert: Kathy Yung
  • Facial plastics and reconstructive surgery specialist: Gaelen Stanford-Moore
  • Neurotology and audiology director: Nick Dewyer
  • General ENT surgeon: Kambridge Hribar

We are also in the process of recruiting additional specialists, including a rhinologist/sinus surgeon and another laryngologist focused on bronchoesophagology. Our team currently includes three microvascular free flap surgeons and plans to expand to a team of five or six dedicated to head and neck microvascular reconstructive surgery.

Our department is supported by four physician assistants and one nurse practitioner who assist in clinics, operating rooms, and inpatient care. We also have four speech and swallow therapists, with one specifically dedicated to dysphagia and head and neck cancer patients, and plans to add another as needed. Additionally, we have registered nurses focused on head and neck cancer patient navigation. Our commitment to academic pursuits includes research, education, mentorship, and leadership within the health system, alongside plans to host an annual CME course in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.

Surgeon-performed ultrasound is integrated into both clinic and intraoperative settings. Collaboration with facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, neurotology, and laryngology is routine, as is interaction with general plastic surgery, dermatology, endocrinology, neurointerventional radiology, body interventional radiology, and neurosurgery. Hospitalists and intensivists manage all inpatient care at the medical center. The expectation includes two to three weeks of EMTALA ER/Consult call annually and four to five weeks of OHNS practice call, with overlapping coverage.
