Primary Function : The Controller is responsible for leading the financial and accounting operations of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), applicable nonprofit accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and sound financial management practices.

The Controller serves as the organization's primary financial operations and accounting leader and provides accurate, timely and meaningful financial information to the Chief Executive Officer, Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors and other key stakeholders. The position is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, internal controls, audit and compliance, financial systems, and the ongoing improvement of the organization's financial processes.

Essential Job Responsibilities :

Financial Management & Reporting

• Lead and oversee the organization's accounting and financial operations to ensure accurate, timely and reliable financial information.
• Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and financial statements.
• Maintain effective financial policies, procedures and internal controls that support sound financial stewardship and organizational accountability.
• Monitor financial performance and communicate significant trends, variances, risks and opportunities to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
• Ensure the integrity and effectiveness of the organization's financial systems, processes and reporting tools.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis

• Lead and facilitate the organization's annual budgeting process, providing financial guidance, tools and information to organizational leaders.
• Develop and maintain financial forecasts and cash-flow projections to support organizational planning and decision-making.
• Analyze financial trends and develop scenario models to assess the potential impact of changes in funding, revenue, expenses, staffing, programs and other organizational priorities.
• Provide financial analysis that helps identify opportunities, risks and strategies to support the organization's financial sustainability.
• Translate financial information into clear, actionable information for non-financial leaders.

Financial Leadership & Advising

• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
• Evaluate and communicate the financial implications of proposed programs, initiatives, contracts, partnerships and other significant organizational decisions.
• Partner with organizational leaders to strengthen financial understanding, accountability and responsible resource management.
• Provide financial guidance and support to Club Directors and other leaders in managing budgets and understanding financial performance.
• Support the organization's long-term financial planning and sustainability through financial analysis and forecasting.

Audit, Compliance & Financial Governance

• Coordinate and facilitate the annual financial audit and work with external auditors, accountants and other financial professionals as appropriate.
• Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, financial reporting and other required compliance activities.
• Monitor compliance with applicable accounting standards, grant requirements, regulations and organizational policies.
• Oversee financial aspects of grants and contracts in coordination with appropriate organizational departments.
• Support strong financial governance and internal controls and provide appropriate financial information to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.

Cash Management, Systems & Process Improvement

• Oversee cash-flow management, banking relationships and other core financial resources of the organization.
• Monitor organizational liquidity and provide leadership with appropriate cash-flow projections and financial information.
• Lead the ongoing evaluation and improvement of financial systems, processes, technology and reporting tools.
• Manage outsourced accounting and financial service relationships as applicable.
• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and overall financial operations of the organization.

Board & Organizational Leadership

• Prepare and present financial reports, forecasts and analysis to the Board of Directors and appropriate Board committees.
• Provide financial information and analysis to support the Board's financial oversight responsibilities.
• Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and contribute financial expertise to organizational planning and decision-making.
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism in all financial matters.
• Build effective working relationships with staff, leadership, Board members, external partners and community agencies.

Management Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, coaching and development to Finance staff and functions assigned to the position.
• Establish priorities and expectations that support accurate, timely and effective financial operations.
• Promote collaboration between Finance and other organizational departments.
• Ensure appropriate knowledge transfer, documentation and continuity within the Finance function.

Qualifications:

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field required.
• CPA strongly preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience , including financial management and leadership experience.
• Nonprofit financial management experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting and financial analysis.
• Experience working with external auditors, accountants and other financial professionals.
• Experience presenting financial information to senior leadership and/or a Board of Directors preferred.
• Supervisory or management experience required.

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP and nonprofit financial management.
• Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial analysis.
• Ability to interpret financial information and communicate its implications to non-financial leaders.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• High level of integrity, discretion and professional judgment.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, Board members, Club Directors, staff and external partners.
• Proficiency with accounting and financial reporting systems and Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

• Minimal physical effort is required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift and walk. Activities may vary due to working with youth and may require extended periods of standing and walking. Maximum unassisted lift is 50 lbs.; average lift is less than 25 lbs.
• Requires the ability to use a computer, various standard and specialized software and database systems, keyboard, calculator and typical office machines.
• Requires local travel to other Clubs and community agencies for meetings, training events and organizational business.

Environmental Requirements

Inside average office environment with average office noise levels. No personal protective equipment required. Ambient temperature generally between 68 and 76 degrees Fahrenheit.

• Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000
