Project Engineer (P.E. license required)

Job Summary

S&B Christ Consulting, LLC (SBCC) is seeking an experienced Project Manager / Professional Engineer (PE) to lead multidisciplinary architectural and engineering projects from planning and design through completion. The successful candidate must possess an active Professional Engineer license with a background in Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering.

This position combines technical engineering expertise with project leadership and is responsible for managing project scope, schedules, budgets, technical quality, client relationships, and multidisciplinary project teams. The Project Manager serves as a primary point of contact for clients and coordinates engineers, designers, architects, consultants, and other project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed in accordance with contractual requirements, applicable codes and standards, established budgets, and project schedules.

The ideal candidate has experience working within an architectural/engineering design environment and is comfortable managing multiple projects while providing technical leadership and guidance to engineering and design staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

•     Project Management: Manage A/E projects from initiation through completion, including project scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, staffing requirements, technical coordination, and overall project performance. 

•     Multidisciplinary Team Leadership: Coordinate the work of mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, architectural, and other technical disciplines to ensure integrated and complete design solutions. 

•     Client Management: Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients. Develop and maintain strong client relationships, communicate project status, address concerns, and manage client expectations throughout the project lifecycle. 

•     Technical Leadership: Provide technical oversight and engineering guidance based on the candidate's licensed discipline while effectively coordinating work performed by other engineering disciplines. 

•     Design Management: Oversee the development and review of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, studies, design packages, and other technical deliverables. 

•     Quality Control: Ensure project deliverables comply with applicable codes, regulations, engineering standards, contractual requirements, and SBCC quality-control procedures. 

•     Project Planning & Scheduling: Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, deliverable dates, and resource requirements. Identify schedule risks and implement corrective measures when necessary. 

•     Budget & Financial Management: Monitor project budgets, labor utilization, project costs, and financial performance. Identify potential budget issues and coordinate appropriate corrective actions. 

•     Scope Management: Maintain awareness of contractual scope and identify work that may fall outside the established scope. Coordinate changes, additional services, and scope modifications as appropriate. 

•     Resource Management: Coordinate staffing and workload requirements with engineering and design leadership to ensure projects have appropriate resources to meet deadlines. 

•     Risk Management & Problem Solving: Proactively identify technical, schedule, budget, contractual, and coordination risks and develop solutions before they adversely affect project performance. 

•     Field & Existing Conditions Coordination: Participate in site visits, field investigations, facility assessments, and existing-condition evaluations when required to support project planning and design. 

•     Cost Estimating: Support or oversee preparation of project cost estimates and evaluate design decisions for constructability, feasibility, and cost effectiveness. 

•     Documentation: Maintain accurate and complete project records, including correspondence, technical documentation, design decisions, schedules, meeting notes, and other required project information. 

•     Mentorship & Staff Development: Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers, designers, and junior technical staff. Promote technical development, accountability, and knowledge sharing. 

•     Meetings & Presentations: Lead internal and external project meetings, design reviews, client presentations, and project coordination meetings. 

•     Communication: Clearly communicate project requirements, priorities, responsibilities, deadlines, and technical information to clients, project teams, leadership, and other stakeholders. 

•     Business Support: Assist with development of project scopes, level-of-effort estimates, fee proposals, schedules, and technical information for proposals and new project opportunities as requested. 

•     Company Culture & Collaboration: Foster a collaborative work environment and support SBCC's standards for professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and client service. 

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

•    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. 

•    Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible engineering experience, including experience in engineering design and project management. 

•    Demonstrated experience managing A/E design projects, including scope, schedule, budget, technical deliverables, and multidisciplinary coordination. 

•    Experience working directly with clients and managing client expectations. 

•    Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, technical reports, and other design deliverables. 

•    Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines. 

Required Licensure

•    Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required. 

•    PE must be in or directly applicable to Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering. 

•    Ability to obtain professional engineering registration in additional states through comity/reciprocity as required by project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Experience with facility design, renovation, assessment, or infrastructure projects. 

•    Experience coordinating architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil disciplines on a single project. 

•    Experience developing project scopes, fees, schedules, and proposals. 

•    Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and/or similar A/E design and review software. 

•    Experience leading design reviews and quality-control processes.

Remote Work Arrangement

Remote work arrangements may be considered for employees who reside more than 75 miles from an SBCC office, based on position requirements, project needs, and management approval.

Employees approved for a remote work arrangement should expect to:

•    Travel to an SBCC office and/or project site approximately once per month, or more frequently when required by project or client needs. 

•    Attend in-person meetings, project activities, training, site visits, or other company events when requested. 

•    Maintain reliable availability and communication during established work hours. 

•    Meet all performance, productivity, security, and technology requirements applicable to remote employees. 

Travel to an SBCC office or project site is an expected component of this position and should be anticipated when considering a remote work arrangement.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The position is primarily performed in a professional office environment and requires regular use of computers and other standard office equipment. The employee must be able to review detailed engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and other technical documentation.

The position requires regular interaction with clients, project teams, consultants, and other stakeholders through in-person and virtual meetings. Occasional travel and site visits may be required and may involve walking through active facilities, construction areas, or outdoor environments with varying terrain and weather conditions.

Work is generally performed during standard business hours; however, additional or extended hours may occasionally be necessary to meet project deadlines and client requirements.
