Mixed Pet Veterinary Hospital - DVM/VMD Student Extern

Job Description

Job Description

Who is VetEvolve?

VetEvolve is a network of veterinary practices built to support the people delivering care and the practices they lead. We combine clinical insight with operational strength to give our teams the support, tools, and structure they need to thrive, without losing what makes each practice unique. We are intentionally focused on growth, not as an end in itself, but as a way to strengthen our practices, expand access to care, and create more opportunities for our teams.

Guided by our values: Care First. Better Together. Grow Forward. Own It. We create an environment where veterinary professionals can do their best work, build meaningful careers, and deliver exceptional care. Growth with intention. Care without compromise.

Veterinary Student Externship at Mixed Pet Veterinary Hospital

About the hospital:

At Mixed Pet Veterinary Hospital, we like to think of ourselves as a little different, in all the right ways. Since 2000, our Charlotte animal hospital has been built around one simple idea: combine serious veterinary expertise with a fun, approachable culture that puts pets (and their people) instantly at ease.

Our founder, Dr. Schoolmeester, has spent nearly 50 years caring for pets in North Carolina, and that depth of experience is something you feel the moment you walk through our doors. From puppies with zoomies to wise senior cats who need extra support, we've been lucky enough to care for generations of pets across Ballantyne, SouthPark, Matthews, and beyond.

Mixed Pet is more than a vet clinic: It's a community of loyal clients, long-term team members, and a whole lot of wagging tails.

What we offer externs:

• Stipend to offset the cost of housing and travel
• Mentorship from eager and experienced veterinarians
• Opportunities to connect with multiple VetEvolve practices

Why VetEvolve:

• VetEvolve's Support from the Start program is designed to provide new veterinarians with mentorship, hands-on training, and a customized post-grad experience to build a strong foundation. This includes assigned mentors, individualized mentorship plans, and opportunities for specialized training and continued education to help you develop your skills and confidence while fostering a healthy work-life balance.
• Industry leading Veterinarian and support staff retention rates - Hear why our Veterinarians are "Happy Here" on our videos page.
• We invest in our team members' professional growth and mental wellbeing, and many of our team members hold Compassion Fatigue Professional certifications.
• We live by our core values: Serve, Evolve, and Trust.
• " They allow me the freedom to practice as I see fit…We can make almost all of our main decisions ourselves, at the clinic level. Their up front focus on honesty and improving over time keeps surprising me each time they demonstrate it. Veterinary medicine is not always the prettiest, easiest, happiest, or most satisfying line of work as we all know, but I can't imagine doing it for any other group. VetEvolve has been able to retain a small feel over time, as it grows, which is huge for me."- VetEvolve network DVM. • Repeat winner of Virginia's Best Places to Work (we are based in Virginia).
