Circulation Assistant (Saturdays), Cotuit Library (Barnstable) POSITION SUMMARY Cotuit Library is seeking a friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented Circulation Assistant to join our front desk team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with the public, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is comfortable handling a variety of tasks in a busy, public-facing setting. The Circulation Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the library is welcoming, efficient, and well-staffed during public hours. SCHEDULE Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Greet and assist patrons of all ages in a courteous, engaging manner Check library materials in and out, process renewals, and handle holds and paging lists Create and maintain patron records with accuracy and care Answer general reference questions and assist with readers' advisory Help patrons locate materials and use equipment such as the copier, printer, or public computer Shelve and retrieve library items as needed Assist with library displays and occasional programs Answer phones and provide information in a professional manner Support opening and closing procedures as needed Note: This list is not exhaustive. Additional tasks may be assigned in line with the nature of the position. Qualifications WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR A warm, approachable personality and a genuine desire to help others Strong communication and customer service skills Patience, kindness, and a good sense of humor Ability to work independently and stay organized in a dynamic setting Professionalism, discretion, and respect for patron privacy Comfort with technology and basic troubleshooting Prior library or customer service experience preferred Familiarity with library systems, such as KOHA or similar platforms, is a plus. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent required Proficiency with computers and office equipment (scanners, printers, etc.) A CORI/SORI background check is required. Previous library experience is preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Occasional climbing of step stools may be needed to retrieve or shelve materials. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position operates in a lively, public-facing setting and is part of a dynamic, intergenerational team that values creativity, collaboration, and community service. Work is conducted primarily in a traditional library and office environment. The role requires regular use of standard office and library equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, telephones, and calculators. As a representative of the library, the Circulation Assistant is expected to maintain a neat appearance and adhere to a business-casual dress code, along with professional hygiene standards.
