VDOT Technical Support Specialist II (Onsite)

Job Description : We are hiring a Technical Support Specialist II for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Salem District.

This is a fully onsite role supporting field staff with IT systems, devices, and day-to-day technical operations.

The selected candidate will work directly with end users in a fast-paced government IT environment, providing hands-on technical support, troubleshooting, and customer service.

This position requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a customer-first mindset.

Candidate must be available to work onsite Monday to Friday (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) in Salem, VA.

Key Responsibilities: • Provide onsite IT support to VDOT field staff and end users • Troubleshoot hardware, software, desktop, and laptop issues • Support Microsoft Windows, Office 365, SharePoint, and MS Teams • Manage and resolve help desk tickets using tracking systems • Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, and wireless devices • Provide support for mobile devices and field technology tools • Escalate complex issues to higher-level support when required • Deliver end-user training and basic technology guidance • Maintain accurate documentation of issues and resolutions • Ensure high-quality customer service and timely issue resolution • Drive state vehicle when required (valid driver’s license mandatory) Required Skills & Experience, • Minimum 5 years of IT support / desktop support experience • Strong experience with Microsoft Windows (10/11) • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office 365, MS Teams, SharePoint • Experience in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues • Experience with IT help desk/ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.

) • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) • Strong customer service and end-user support experience • Ability to work independently in field/on-site environments Preferred Skills, • Experience providing IT training to end users • Knowledge of enterprise mobile device support • Experience creating technical documentation or user guides • Exposure to government or large enterprise IT environments Education, • Associate in Applied Science (IT / Computer Science preferred) • OR equivalent technical diploma / IT certification • Bachelor’s degree is a plus Work Details, • Location: Salem, Virginia (Onsite Only) • Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM • Employment Type: Contract (W2 / C2C available) • Duration: 1 Year (Extendable 6–12+ months) • Start: Immediate / As soon as selected candidate is available Salary, • W2 Rate: $22/hour • C2C Rate: $28/hour Additional Requirements, • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States • Must reside near Salem / Roanoke, VA area • Must be willing to work 100% onsite (No remote option) • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required Preferred Languages, • English (Fluent – Written & Spoken).
