Job Location: Adobe Mountain School 2800 W. The Youth Corrections Officer position participates in a 4-Step pay plan that conforms to the following: Step 1: $22.50 hourly, $46,800.00 annually Step 2: $23.6539 hourly, $49,200.11 annually Step 3: $24.2309 hourly, $50,400.27 annually Step 4: $24.6925 hourly, $51,360.40 annually Job Duties The job functions of a Youth Corrections Officer include, but are not limited to the following: Mentoring, supervising, and directing incarcerated youth Role modeling positive behaviors Teaching life skills Assisting teachers with classroom management Transporting youth to daily activities Providing crisis intervention Providing youth a safe and secure environment Additional job duties include: Monitoring assigned unit for safety hazards or security violations Performing searches for weapons and contraband Conducting visitation inspections Updating various logs and records, and sharing reports Applicants do not need to have any prior experience or training. ADJC will provide you with all the necessary training during our paid eight (8) week Youth Corrections Officer (YCO) Training Academy. The YCO Training Academy is scheduled every eight weeks, and is held Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Adobe Mountain School. YCO Training Academy topics include, but are not limited to the following: Juvenile Corrections Procedures Officer Skills Crisis Intervention Adolescent Treatment Issues Legal Issues in Juvenile Corrections Additionally upon completion of the YCO Training Academy, you will also receive two weeks of paid on-the-job training. Earn College Credit! ADJC is committed to employees continuing their education, and offers up to $1,500 in tuition assistance per fiscal year (subject to funds availability). As a YCO Training Academy Graduate, you will already have 20 college credits and a Certificate of Completion in Juvenile Corrections from Rio Salado College to start from. By continuing your education at Rio Salado College you could complete the Associates in Applied Science in Corrections and Detention program in no time at all. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of: Human behavior to include growth, development, needs and problems of youth Proper methods and circumstances requiring use of force Language as it pertains to youth care, custody treatment and rehabilitation Standard housekeeping practices Skill in: Verbal and written communication Ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships Work both indoors and outdoors in varying Arizona weather conditions Learn and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, programs and activities established for the agency Learn and apply methods, techniques and correct practices of security procedures as they pertain to the state’s youth secure care facilities Maintain an understanding attitude toward juveniles in custody Participate in rehabilitation and/or treatment activities Provide assistance, guidance and direction to juveniles Provide positive prosocial role modeling Apply appropriate restraint techniques Respond to emergency situations and provide crisis intervention and first aid/basic life support Maintain a safe and secure environment Selective Preference(s) Preference will be given to applicants with: Military Veterans/Law Enforcement background Experience in working with youth or juveniles preferred Pre-Employment Requirements In order to qualify for a Youth Corrections Officer position, applicants must possess the following: 18 years of age or older High School Diploma or GED No felony convictions Must possess and retain a current/valid Driver License (A current/valid Arizona Drivers License will be required at the time a official start date is established.) Selection Process Includes: Video Impact Test Panel Interview Behavioral Assessment Comprehensive Background Investigation Drug screen Pre-placement Physical Exam Predictive Index Survey (Survey not used as a selection factor) Requires successful completion of a paid eight (8) week ADJC Pre-Service Training Academy. All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
