Title Senior Specialist: Behavioral Birth to Five Job Summary Assists teachers, principals, directors, school‑based staff, and Central Office personnel in planning, implementing, and evaluating special education services for children born to five and students from kindergarten through 12th grade with challenging behavior and emotional disabilities. Provides direct intervention services to families of children from birth to five with disabilities, conducts assessment of behavioral challenges, and develops strategies to support families and staff. Manages assigned caseload of children according to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and/or Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP). Essential Duties / Responsibilities Develop instructional and behavioral strategies and material recommendations to meet the needs of students with challenging behavior and emotional disability in the least restrictive environment. Assist in setting appropriate goals and evaluating instructional and behavioral objectives to meet individual student needs. Help develop, coordinate, and adapt countywide programs for students with challenging behavior and emotional disability. Plan, develop, and deliver professional development, training, and orientation on behavioral management and crisis intervention for students with emotional disabilities and those demonstrating challenging behavior. Inform and acquaint teachers with new ideas, programs, strategies, and trends in behavioral intervention. Support the development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP). Collaborate with other offices and individuals within AACPS that support students with challenging behaviors. Provide individual, family, and group training and crisis intervention to families dealing with the emotional impact of raising a child with disabilities and challenging behaviors. Offer technical assistance and consultation to staff on behavioral issues, family impacts, and culturally responsive strategies. Manage assigned caseload including scheduling, assessment, paperwork, meetings, and home visits per the IEP or IFSP. Perform other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower. Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education Bachelor's Degree in social work, clinical psychology, psychology, sociology, special education, or a related field of education from a regionally accredited institution is required. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience Three (3) years of professional experience providing behavioral consultation and intervention services or teaching experience with children who have challenging behaviors and families, or a related functional area is required. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated leadership qualities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, staff, students, and families. Reliable attendance and punctuality; the role requires in‑person service provision. Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations. Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite). Licenses & Certifications Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is preferred. Hold or be eligible for Special Education Certificate issued by the MSDE is preferred. Hold or be eligible for Board Certified Behavior Specialist (BCBA) Certification issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board is preferred. Valid driver's license (Class C Non‑Commercial) issued by Maryland or the state of legal residence is required. Daily reliable transportation.
