Department Information The Woodruff School graduates high caliber mechanical engineers for a demanding profession. Mechanical engineers are the foundation of today's technological world. To do so, we provide enhanced facilities and laboratories to create the best learning environment and we attract outstanding faculty and students. In this period of rapid technological change, the Woodruff School produces mechanical engineers who are vital to our future. With approximately 3,000 students, 100 faculty members, and 80 staff members, the Woodruff School is one of the largest mechanical engineering programs in the country. We are consistently ranked as one of the top 10 mechanical engineering programs in the U.S. at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and continuously innovate to keep our school at the forefront of engineering education. Job Summary Provide intermediate level mechanical engineering services in support of either the operation and maintenance of campus facilities mechanical systems and utilities or systems and equipment associated with research efforts within an academic or research unit or laboratory. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: facilities management and utilities personnel or research management and faculty; co-workers, vendors, suppliers and contractors. This position typically will advise and counsel: facilities or lab management. This position will supervise: NA. Responsibilities Job Duty 1 - Participate in the design, installation and testing of mechanical systems and components. Job Duty 2 - Develop engineering project schedules. Job Duty 3 - Conduct analyses of mechanical system performance; prescribe corrective action where required. Job Duty 4 - Develop plans and specifications for mechanical systems and components. Job Duty 5 - Troubleshoot mechanical systems; may involve calibration and repair work. Job Duty 6 - Prepare drawings, schematic diagrams and other documentation associated with mechanical components and systems. Job Duty 7 - Provide input to and administer project engineering budgets. Job Duty 8 - Interact with vendors regarding procurement and delivery issues. Job Duty 9 - Participate in project reviews for conformance to quality standards and compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Job Duty 10 - Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience Other Required Qualifications Valid Georgia Driver's License Required Experience Four to six years of job related experience Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) Additional Preferred Qualifications Advanced knowledge and application of mechanical engineering principles, processes, and best practices. Experience interpreting and applying applicable mechanical engineering regulations, codes, and safety standards. Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, coordination, scheduling, and execution. Proficiency with standard computer applications and advanced engineering software relevant to mechanical systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Ability to analyze complex engineering problems and develop practical, cost-effective solutions. Design for manufacturing (DFM) and CAD/CAM Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities SKILLS This job requires application of mechanical engineering principles, processes and practices; application of regulations, codes and safety practices associated with mechanical systems; utilization of basic and advanced computer applications including those specific to areas of responsibility; communications.
