About the Role
Smile Avenue Family Dentistry is seeking a Registered Dental Assistant to support a busy dental practice. In this role, you'll help ensure patients feel comfortable, assist the dentist during procedures, and keep clinical areas prepared, clean, and well-stocked. Success looks like delivering excellent patient care, maintaining meticulous infection control and documentation, and helping the office run smoothly through organized, reliable support before, during, and after appointments. Smile Avenue Family Dentistry is seeking a Registered Dental Assistant to support a busy dental practice. In this role, you'll help ensure patients feel comfortable, assist the dentist during procedures, and keep clinical areas prepared, clean, and well-stocked. Success looks like delivering excellent patient care, maintaining meticulous infection control and documentation, and helping the office run smoothly through organized, reliable support before, during, and after appointments. Duties & Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and prepare them for upcoming treatments or checkups.
- Ensure patient comfort by explaining next steps and supporting a positive visit experience.
- Select, set up, and prepare instruments, equipment, and materials needed for procedures.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments in accordance with applicable regulations and practice protocols.
- Assist the dentist with four-handed dentistry to support efficient, safe care.
- Perform lab tasks as instructed to support treatment preparation and workflow.
- Provide oral hygiene and post-operative care instructions to patients.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked dental room between appointments.
- Schedule appointments and support front-office coordination as needed.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with payment-related procedures.
- Gather and record medical and dental histories, as well as patient vital signs, when required.
- Support emergency readiness by assisting the dentist during medical and dental emergencies as needed.
- High school diploma.
- Proven experience as a dental assistant.
- Dental x-ray certification.
- Knowledge of dental instruments and sterilization methods.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations and infection control practices.
- Ability to follow directions, adhere to practice rules, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Experience or comfort performing regulated non-surgical tasks (coronal polishing) is a plus.
- Good computer skills for records and scheduling.
- Excellent communication and people skills with a patient-centered approach.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and reliability.
- Graduate of a dental assistant school is preferred.
- Additional certification or training is an asset (e.g., EFDA).
