Physician 3 - MCC

Overview The Department of Corrections Health Services Division seeks a Physician 3 to provide Administrative supervision of PA/ARNP staff and deliver multidisciplinary care at the Monroe Correctional Complex. The position is based onsite at the facility, primarily overseeing clinical delivery and ensuring quality patient care in a correctional setting. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care Clinical care of incarcerated individuals, responding to sick call, reviewing nursing triage, and working closely with the nursing team and other clinical staff. Implement care plans, provide direct care, and determine when urgent or additional interventions are required. Practice medicine within scope defined by Washington law, administrative code, and the WA DOC health plan. Diagnose health problems, prescribe medication, and collaborate with the Facility Medical Director and HSM3 on planning and continuity of care. Communicate with patients, families, and stakeholders; provide clear documentation and instructions. Assist in counseling and education, ensuring patients and families can manage symptoms and treatment regimens. Provide help with treatment/management of Hepatitis C patients and OUD/Suboxone therapy. Provide care in any unit as needed, including on‑call phone status. Provide clinical consultation and oversight to ARNPs and PAs at MCC Supervise staff of midlevel providers in accordance with DOC policies and DOH RCW’s. Consult with Health Services Managers, RN4, and Custody Administration. Assist in evaluating clinical performance of all contract medical providers and provide instruction and mentorship. Review clinician compliance. Consultation and Training Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to develop comprehensive treatment plans and ensure continuity of care. Participate in the development, review, and revision of Health Services policies, procedures, and treatment protocols. Assist in multidisciplinary educational programs for staff to maintain professional knowledge. Provide continuing education and in‑service training to health‑care staff. Assist in performance evaluations of contract and employed providers. Documentation and Health Services Activities Maintain accurate, legible, complete records using SOAP format for all patient interactions. Participate in institutional safety inspections and report deficiencies. Respond to requests from the public, patients, families, and staff regarding medical confidentiality. Investigate and respond to patient grievances and incident reports. Quality Improvement & Other duties Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement Process, Care Review Committee, lab processes, and death investigations. Practice in accordance with DOC policy and WA DOC Health Plan. Maintain relationships with community health providers. Provide direct patient care to meet facility requirements. Required Qualifications Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Washington State. Unrestricted DEA license with waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder (waiver to be obtained within 60 days of hire if not active). American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers, certified within 60 days of hire. Experience supervising and/or directing health‑care delivery operations. Preferred Qualifications Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited school with completion of an ACGME/ABOM accredited residency. Board certification in an ABMS/ABOM specialty, preferably Internal Medicine (board‑eligible physicians may be considered with commitment to certification within 24 months).
