Surgical Technologist

Overview Hennepin Healthcare is an integrated healthcare system with a 473‑bed academic medical center and a large outpatient Clinic & Specialty Center. We seek several Surgical Technologists to join our OR team on a part‑time basis (64 hours per pay period) with day, evening, night, every 4th weekend, and on‑call shifts. The role is 8‑hour shifts with benefits and a mandatory on‑call per unit policy. We strive to create a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. Responsibilities Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation. Select instruments, equipment, and supplies for each surgical procedure. Prepare the OR room by setting up sterile tables and checking equipment and supplies. Scrub for surgical procedures: assist the surgeon with prep and draping, pass sterile instruments and supplies, and assist with the surgical procedure as appropriate. Follow the principles of sterile technique and remedy breaks in sterile technique when observed. Identify specimens before passing off the field and transport specimens to Pathology as directed. Operate specified OR equipment in the manner in which they have been trained. Assist RN with circulating duties as delegated. Assist with transfer of patients into or out of the operating room. Clean rooms, instruments, and equipment appropriately. Identify and report instruments and equipment in need of maintenance. Assist in teaching scrub role responsibilities to residents, nurses, and surgical technologist students. Support the operating room team as needed. Keep up‑to‑date on new procedures and equipment and communicate changes to other staff. Pursue professional growth and development. Perform all responsibilities and duties required to ensure that the client’s unique nature is addressed. Function as a role model for current and new surgical staff. May be required to perform additional tasks such as restocking, cleaning equipment, and other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Completion of a Surgical Technologist program from an accredited institution, applicable military training, or two (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist. CST certification required by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Preferred Qualifications Completion of a Surgical Technologist program from an accredited institution, applicable military training, or two (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A firm understanding of the surgical process and the ability to use critical thinking skills to assist the surgeon in providing high quality patient care. The ability to remain calm in sometimes stressful situations. A willingness to learn new procedures and processes.
