Job Title: Mold Assembler (Crimper) – 3rd Shift Job Description

The Mold Assembler (Crimper) plays a critical role in assembling polymer cores, attaching metal end fittings, and ensuring every insulator meets strict mechanical and electrical performance standards. This hands-on position requires strong mechanical aptitude, experience with hydraulic or pneumatic crimping tools, and the ability to follow exact pressure specifications for each crimp while working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment on the 3rd shift.

Responsibilities

• Assemble polymer insulator components according to detailed work instructions, engineering drawings, and established quality standards.

• Operate hydraulic and pneumatic crimping equipment to securely attach metal end fittings to polymer rods.

• Set, verify, and adhere to precise pressure and force specifications for each crimping operation to ensure consistency and reliability.

• Inspect crimped assemblies for proper depth, alignment, bonding, and overall structural integrity.

• Support polymer molding, curing, and material preparation processes as needed to maintain production flow.

• Use measurement tools such as calipers, gauges, micrometers, and depth gauges to confirm dimensional accuracy and tolerances.

• Apply go/no-go gauges to verify that crimp tolerances meet required specifications.

• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment, safe equipment handling, and adherence to lockout/tagout practices.

• Communicate defects, equipment issues, or material shortages promptly to supervision to minimize downtime and maintain quality.

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team-based problem solving to enhance processes, safety, and product quality.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on mechanical assembly experience in a production or manufacturing environment.

• Proficiency using hydraulic and pneumatic crimping tools to attach metal end fittings.

• Ability to set, verify, and follow precise pressure and force specifications for crimping operations.

• Experience using hand and power tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, mallets, and similar equipment.

• Skill in using calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and other precision measurement tools for dimensional checks.

• Ability to use go/no-go gauges to verify crimp tolerances in accordance with quality standards.

• Familiarity with torque wrenches and torque-controlled tools for secure and accurate fastening.

• Comfort working with measurement and inspection tools in ISO-controlled environments.

• Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions and engineering drawings.

• Commitment to following safety procedures, including PPE usage, equipment handling, and lockout/tagout.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in general production or assembly roles involving mechanical components.

• Background in polymer molding, curing, or related material preparation processes.

• Exposure to fast-paced manufacturing environments with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.

• Participation in continuous improvement or team-based problem-solving activities.

Work Environment

This role operates on the 3rd shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) on a consistent full-time schedule, with opportunities for overtime based on production demand. The work takes place in a non-climate-controlled production facility where temperatures can become very hot during the summer months. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, involving polymer molding operations and the use of hydraulic and pneumatic crimping equipment. Work is performed in a structured, team-oriented setting with defined workstations and established safety procedures. Employees may keep water at their workstation to stay hydrated throughout the shift, and appropriate personal protective equipment is required in line with safety and equipment-handling practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
