Lab Manager

Job Description Lab Manager – Location: SP Red Hill Your impact in this role: Manage the day‑to‑day resources, equipment, and manpower economically to achieve the best practical throughput of test work and ensure valid, accurate results are produced in line with the Sibelco laboratory handbook. Responsibilities: Ensure adherence to safety standards and housekeeping 5S procedures. Develop standard analysis methods and procedures when new equipment is introduced. Ensure adequate training is provided and test procedures are maintained and adhered to. Coordinate calibration and servicing of instrumentation to ensure valid and timely results. Advise on test requirements and procedures and assess validity of results produced. Initiate continuous improvement within the laboratory. Ensure effective implementation of the Sibelco laboratory handbooks. Ensure the effectiveness of the laboratory and meet requestor requirements. Strive for excellence by balancing quality and cost. Ensure the latest version of the handbook is always available to laboratory staff. Motivate and evaluate team members to enhance collaboration and support individual development. Liaise with HR and internal Sibelco customers to coordinate staff welfare, team working and legislative issues. Set up planning (middle and long term), prioritising workload and organising resources to maintain an efficient, cost‑effective and organised department. Instruct staff on upcoming deadlines and changing priorities. Liaise with internal customers and technical services team to achieve workable expectations. Create work assignments and schedules, and review work in progress. Initiate innovation and track the development of new methods and procedures to continuously improve the way of working. Assist and advise other departments. Support operational labs in the development of new analytical methods for quality control operations, when implementing new products. Provide feedback on the execution of NPD and TSSR activities. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or equivalent. 5 years of laboratory experience, including previous supervisory experience. Managerial experience preferred. Knowledge of LIMS. Knowledge of ERP. Self‑starter able to multitask in a fast‑paced environment. Fluency in written and spoken English.
