Agricultural Equipment Operators

Job Overview We operate a custom contract business in Illinois producing an estimated 14,000 acres of seed corn. Our work begins mid‑May with male row delay. We use tractors to drive flaming or cutting implements through the field to stunt the male row of corn. Late June brings mechanical detasseling using Oxbo machines that cut and pull tassels from female seed corn plants. In August we continue with male row destroying, also using Oxbo machines to chop the male rows no longer needed. Harvesting runs from mid‑August to early October, during which we operate Oxbo pickers and tractors with chase carts. After the harvest we spend about three weeks cleaning equipment and preparing for winter storage. Responsibilities Operate Case tractors with flaming or cutting implements. Operate Oxbo machines with pulling and cutting toolbars, and Case tractors with Oxbo dump carts to dump seed corn onto semi‑trailers. Move and drive equipment from field to field. Assist with all aspects of harvesting the seed corn crops. Read road and field maps and communicate effectively with others. Perform daily routine repairs and maintenance on equipment. Adhere to company safety protocols, including hearing and vision requirements, as part of training. Qualifications Must be able to read road and field maps, communicate effectively, meet hearing and vision requirements, and follow company safety protocols. Experience operating tractors and similar agricultural equipment is preferred. Benefits Potential for pay increases based on performance and experience.
