Architectural Assessor

Pond is seeking an entry-level Architectural Assessor to support facility and infrastructure condition assessments at Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) facilities across the United States. This position is ideal for recent graduates with a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Architecture who are eager to launch their careers in facility assessments, asset management, and infrastructure consulting. Working alongside experienced assessment teams, the Architectural Assessor will perform on-site evaluations of architectural building components, collect and analyze facility data, and develop detailed reports that help federal clients make informed asset management decisions. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, adaptable, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment that combines extensive travel with office-based report development. This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity for a 15-month contract . The position may be based out of Huntsville, AL; Atlanta, GA; or New Orleans, LA and requires approximately 50% travel . All company-required travel expenses, including airfare, rental vehicles, and lodging, are covered by the company. Travelers will receive the applicable Federal Per Diem rate for eligible travel days. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal Security Clearance . Key Responsibilities Conduct Facility Assessments: Perform architectural condition assessments of Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities using the 2025 BUILDER SMS Assessment Guide and established asset management methodologies. Collect & Analyze Data: Perform field site visits to evaluate architectural building components, collect facility data, and accurately document existing conditions. Develop Asset Management Reports: Assist in preparing detailed assessment reports, data summaries, and supporting documentation for federal clients. Review Technical Documentation: Read and interpret planning documents, engineering reports, construction drawings, and related datasets to support assessment activities. Support Asset Management Initiatives: Perform baseline analysis of facility and infrastructure assets utilizing Asset Management (AM) technologies under the guidance of project team leaders. Develop Technical Knowledge: Build an understanding of local, state, and federal asset management standards, data requirements, and schema sets. Collaborate with Project Teams: Work closely with senior assessors and multidisciplinary team members to complete assessments, data collection efforts, and project deliverables on schedule. Communicate Effectively: Present findings clearly through written reports, data representation, and verbal communication with internal teams and clients. Maintain Client Relationships: Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients while representing Pond during site visits and project activities. Deliver Quality Work: Complete assigned tasks accurately, on time, and within project budgets while adhering to company policies and procedures. Support Project Needs: Be available to work outside of standard business hours when project schedules or client requirements dictate. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture from an accredited institution (degree must be completed and conferred prior to employment). No prior professional experience required; internship or relevant architectural work experience is a plus. Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Security Clearance. Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% of the time throughout the United States. Strong observational skills with the ability to visually assess architectural building components and document facility conditions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software and asset management technologies. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment. Self-driven, dependable, and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within project teams. Ability to perform field work, including walking large facilities, climbing stairs, and working in varying environmental conditions. Internship, co-op, or prior work experience in architecture, facility assessments, building inspections, construction, or related fields is a plus. Experience working in federal, institutional, correctional, or government facilities is a plus. Position may be based out of Huntsville, AL; Atlanta, GA; or New Orleans, LA. Approximately 50% travel is required. Typically, one week of field assessments is followed by one week of office-based report development. All company-required travel expenses, including airfare, rental vehicles, lodging, and related travel arrangements, are paid by the company. Federal Per Diem is provided for all eligible travel days.
