Program Instructor I

The Program Instructor I supports the delivery of high-quality youth development programs for Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Texas. This role facilitates engaging, safe, and inclusive programs for youth at Club sites and community partner locations throughout the region. Program Instructors build positive relationships with youth, lead activities aligned with Club program areas, and support consistent program operations across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Youth Engagement

• Lead and facilitate youth development programs, including but not limited to enrichment activities, group sessions, special events, day trips, and outdoor recreation.
• Create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment that promotes positive behavior, engagement, and belonging.
• Build positive relationships with youth members and serve as a positive role model at all times.
• Adapt activities to meet the needs of youth with varying ages, abilities, and interests.
• Ensure youth follow program rules, safety guidelines, and Club expectations.

Program Planning & Support

• Assist with program planning and preparation, including activity setup and breakdown.
• Support curriculum delivery aligned with Boys & Girls Club program areas.
• Evaluate activities and provide feedback to improve program quality.
• Support inclusion efforts to ensure all youth can participate meaningfully in programs.

Site & Partner Location Support

• Deliver programs at multiple Club sites and community partner locations throughout South Central Texas.
• Transport program supplies and, when assigned, assist with youth transportation using organization vehicles.
• Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding site needs, program challenges, and successes.

Administrative & Team Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate attendance records and complete incident reports as required.
• Assist with tracking volunteer hours and supporting volunteers during programs.
• Communicate professionally with youth, families, partners, and staff.
• Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
• Maintain program spaces, equipment, and supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of experience working with youth, recreation programs, afterschool programs, or community-based programs preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certifications & Requirements

• Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 3 months of hire.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel locally between Club and partner sites.

• Understanding of positive youth development principles.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage groups of youth in structured and unstructured settings.
• Ability to adapt activities and respond calmly in dynamic environments.
• Commitment to creating inclusive, respectful, and safe spaces for all youth.
• Basic computer and record-keeping skills.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Indoor and outdoor work environments at Club and partner locations.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and movement during activities.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds independently and more with assistance.
• Local travel required.
