Oversee Pre‑op and PACU RN’s. Maintain PACU area in a clean and proper environment for patient care. Maintain emergency equipment and understand use of such equipment. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of and compliance with safety policies and procedures, recognizes safety hazards, and initiates appropriate corrective and/or preventative measures. Ability to have a flexible schedule and work a variety of hours Responsible for managing the Pre‑op/PACU RN’s, including but not limited to schedules, assigning tasks and responsibilities, vacation schedules, assigning housekeeping duties, assigning supply ordering and maintenance of PACU. Ability to teach RN’s skills and job duties. Effectively communicate with patients and medical personnel Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the collected data based on the patients immediate condition or needs; reprioritizes care appropriately. Develops a nurse care plan individualized for the patient that is age specific and collaborative with the interdisciplinary health teams. Performs therapeutic nursing interventions established in the plan of care for the patient and accompanying family members, friends, and significant others. Administers treatments and medications as ordered by the physicians or licensed independent practitioners and according to established protocols (policies and procedures). Documents patient assessment and findings, physical/biopsychosocial responses to nursing interventions and progress toward goal completion and problem solving. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality, complying with HIPAA privacy and security rules. Provides care in a non‑judgmental, non‑discriminatory manner that reflects cultural sensitivity. Preserves patient dignity, autonomy, privacy and rights/responsibilities Communicates hand‑off information when passing patient from pre‑op to operating room staff. Performs electrocardiogram and conveys results to appropriate parties. Complies with facility infection control policies and procedures. Checks crash cart, defibrillator, locks, waived testing on a daily basis. Maintains biohazards and complies with OSHA protocol. Contacts patients and conducts a pre‑operative screening. Understands guidelines to determine if a patient is an acceptable candidate for surgery. Obtains proper clearances, labs and paperwork for patients scheduled for surgery. Uses computer systems to create and maintain patient education materials. Teaches patients pre‑operative and post‑operative care and instructions. Checks in patients to facility, reviews consents, starts IV, and helps the patient prepare for surgery. Reviews procedures and cares for patients before and after surgery and anesthesia; airway management, pain control, nausea control, IV maintenance, proper positioning. Understands and administers post‑op orders. Provides medication for pain and nausea control as well as other medications per doctor’s orders. Documents patient care properly. Ensures patient has an appropriate caregiver to take the patient home and provide care. Educates caregiver on patient care upon leaving the facility. Maintains recovery area—cleaning, stocking of medical supplies and nutritional supplies, laundry, medications. Understands cost maintenance and awareness. Maintains narcotic drug count. Manages emergency situations as needed. Understands and complies with all OSHA and biohazard standards. Physical Requirements Good physical condition to frequently walk, bend, stoop and squat; occasionally sit, occasionally lift, carry, push, pull maximum over 50lbs with assistance. Must be able to see, hear, speak, and use both hands to communicate easily. Occupational Exposure Job involves tasks or procedures that have exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.
