Position Information Position Type: Student Support Services/ School Nurse Date Posted: 6/1/2026 Location: Districtwide Forum as Nurse on Special Assignment, with floating nurse schedule, as needed. Position is for 202 days, plus 1 curriculum stipend. Lead Nurse Job Description Requirements: BSN in Nursing with a current Iowa license and Iowa BOEE Statement of Professional Recognition Reports to: Executive Director of Student Services Basic Function: To develop and direct school nursing services. Provides leadership, supervision, consultation, coordination, professional development, program development and program evaluation for the school nursing program. Initiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community. Position Responsibilities Develops and implements nursing program components necessary for compliance with federal and state law as well as local and district policies. Perform duties under the guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act and follow HIPPA and FERPA laws. Maintains accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions. Establishes procedures and manages student health screening programs and administration of medication. Plans and oversees the instruction of CPR and Med Administration preparedness classes for district personnel. Implements and oversees the district occupation exposure to Bloodborne Pathogen and Hepatitis B programs. Maintains district AED inventory. Initiates timely contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community. Works in conjunction with special education staff, nurses, and administrators, to develop and oversee the implementation of health plans for IEP and homebound students. Works with nurses and staff to develop, train, and implement safety evacuation plans for students with limited mobility or wheelchairs. Develops contracts for private duty nurses and guides their work in our schools. Assists content areas specialists with staff professional learning as it relates to the school nursing program and health and well-being of students. Represents the district with community partners to coordinate needed health services for staff and students. Coordinates with the school Medicaid program and nurses as it relates to medical billing. Facilitates 504's at the district level and provides necessary training for staff. Monitors nursing services in our schools on a daily basis and floats to buildings to provide coverage when necessary. Works with Summer learning and extended school year programs to plan for nursing service coverage during summer classes. Other duties as assigned.
