Job Summary:

To coordinate with and assist the director with administrative, patient care and staff development activities. Under the guidance of the Director, provide leadership and expertise to Interventional Radiology staff.

Accountabilities :

• 1. Utilizes managerial skills to assist director in all aspects of functioning of the Interventional Radiology Department.

• a. Coordinates adequate staffing and ensures that all delegated responsibilities pertinent to patient care are efficiently accomplished.

• b. Facilitates problem solving and program development in collaboration with physicians and other departments.

• c. Ensures department compliance with hospital policy and procedures, JCAHO, Department of Health and OSHA regulations and assures the department is safely maintained.

• d. Evaluates associates on a regular basis, including annual performance appraisals, improvement plans and counseling procedures in collaboration with Department Director.

• e. Assures that physicians have access to or assistance in gathering pertinent data for Medical Staff quality improvement activities.

• f. Participates in departmental and hospital committees working toward continual improvement and excellence.

• g. Collaborates with Department Director to ensure that all fiscal goals are met within the department and contributes to the departmental budget process.

• h. Assures that charge, billing and coding information related to services offered in the department are updated and correct to maximize reimbursements and revenue.

• i. Develops and coordinates performance improvement process and continued education of department associates. Fosters an environment of ongoing continuous improvement.

• 1. Assesses, plans, implements, documents, coordinates and manages patient care according to department and hospital standards and give consideration to age-specific accommodations for patients undergoing Interventional procedures.

• a. Performs duties through own initiative and as directed by Interventional Radiology Director.

• b. Demonstrates leadership skills in team building and enhancing interpersonal relationships to create a cohesive and productive environment.

• c. Assures training, ongoing in-services, orientation and evaluation of new and current employees and conducts monthly staff meetings and monitors staff attendance. Assures meeting minutes are documented posted for review.

• d. Demonstrates ability to organize time and multi-task projects, set priorities and changes response based on departmental needs. Monitor associates work attendance, reports absences or lateness and requested PTO according to hospital and departmental policy. Process or supervise payroll weekly.

• e. Conduct interview process for all potential job applicants.

• f. Provides 24-hour accountability for clinical staffing and problem solving for the Department.

• g. Flexible to work various times to meet leadership needs.

• h. Assures coordination of inter-departmental activities to provide quality care and that there are inter and intra departmental liaisons for problem solving.

• i. Facilitates and collaborative relationship with physicians through ongoing communication, interaction and attendance at meetings as appropriate.

• j. Responsible for clinical collaboration between departments for new services or to improve existing services.

• k. Completes departmental projects utilizing the input of others, taking responsibility for key parts of planning.

• l. Collaborates with the Interventional technologists to assure billing is entered accurately in the hospital system.

• m. Assures annual review and revision, if necessary, of all departmental policies and procedures.

• n. Assures requirements of accrediting agencies is implemented through ongoing communication with Quality Resources and Risk Management.

• o. Oversees maintenance and safe use of all departmental equipment, safe work habits and adherence to infection control guidelines.

• p. Responsible for all risk issues in collaboration with Director to include Problem ID's and patient/family complaints. Resolves issues as needed and notified Director within appropriate timeframe.

• q. Mentor's staff in effective, resourceful problem-solving in order to provide quality, safe patient care.

• r. Responsible for overseeing competencies within the department as well as serving as a resource person.

• s. Utilizes the nursing process for all patients assigned to his/her care.

• t. Continuously monitor's patient's condition and prioritizes emergency care during Interventional Radiology studies.

• u. Maintains a complete, accurate record of the patient's care.

• v. Provides patient care that demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of normal physiology and medical interventions and knowledge of principle of growth over the lifespan.

• w. Document patient's response to testing, treatment and effectiveness of care

• x. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in trouble shooting medical equipment such as ECG monitor, defibrillator, infusion pumps, oxygen and pulse oximeter.

• y. Monitors patient's condition during interventional studies and initiates age-appropriate interventions as per standards of care.

• z. Appropriately utilizes and coordinates with Interventional Radiology staff according to their skill level

• aa. Demonstrates ability to perform with clinical proficiency in crisis and medical emergencies.

• bb. Recognizes ECG changes and delivers care in collaboration with the physician

• a. Reports critical values as per policy

• b. Maintains BLS certification and intervenes per standard of care

• 1. Communicates with Radiology and Nursing Associates, management team, patients, physicians, family members, and other health care disciplines and general public in achieving excellence in patient care.

• a. Assesses patients and family needs and provides physiological and psychological support accordingly.

• b. Provides teaching and plans care based on assessment of patient's knowledge, ability and age-appropriateness.

• aa. Provides pertinent instruction regarding Interventional Radiology procedure for patients and families.

• bb. Assists staff in reviewing and updating patient educational material as needed.

• c. Provide in-service education to Interventional Radiology staff incorporating patient care issues, nurse's role and pertinent topics.

• d. Acts as a liaison and resource person for the Department of Nursing and Radiology, the Interventional Radiologists and the Doylestown Hospital Medical Staff.

• e. Participates in the development, revision and evaluation of Nursing Practice Guidelines in Interventional Radiology.

• f. Utilizes verbal, written and computer communication with physicians, technologists and nursing Units regarding patient's status, treatment, outcome and follow-up response.

• g. Maintains Interventional Radiology Patient Care records according to protocol.

• h. Actively participates in pertinent committees where appropriate.

• 1. Promotes patient safety through adherence to protocols, policies and procedures and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals.

• a. Ensures no unapproved abbreviations are used when documenting on a patient's medical record.

• b. Demonstrates initiative and self-direction in completion of assigned responsibilities in accordance with departmental needs.

• d. Maintains safety precautions while providing patient care including infection control, isolation, patient/bed positioning, side rails, physical environment, fall preventions and work injury prevention.

• e. Analyzes data and responds to unusual/undesirable clinical status by taking prompt appropriate action.

• f. Maintains environment of care and keeps all equipment in good working order, reports equipment failure and initiates corrective action. Completes quality reports as needed.

• g. Safely handles medications and body fluids using knowledge of appropriate standard precautions.

• h. Ensures Nursing staff adherers to Moderate Sedation Guidelines pre, intra and post procedurally.

• i. Confirms completeness of the Interventional Radiology Monitoring Record for all sedation cases.

• j. Successfully performs or witnesses a "time-Out" before each procedure.

• 1. Actively participates in and supports departmental and organizational quality initiatives and departmental fiscal goals.

• a. Participates in CQI programs as needed.

• b. Participates in Committees as necessary.

• c. Cooperates and assists co-workers and managers in completing work.

• d. Assists in training Associates or students as required.

• e. Completes work within assigned shift unless otherwise approved.

• f. Utilizes materials with an awareness of costs and promoting patient safety.

• g. Attends work, reports absences, lateness and requests time off in accordance with hospital and departmental policy.

• h. Volunteers to flex or extend shifts as needed to complete daily workload or projects.

• i. Always handles patients, visitors and staff with courtesy, tact and diplomacy.

• j. Promotes cost effectiveness in Interventional Radiology by coordinating efforts between departments to minimize duplication of supplies.

• k. Prioritizes work during busy and emergent situations by cooperatively completing duties with co-workers.

• l. Actively monitors appropriate functioning of emergency equipment and initiates repair or replacement as necessary.

• m. Stocks and cleans all equipment trained to use as per infection control standards.

• n. Activates charges for medications used in Interventional Radiology.

Qualifications:

• BSN Required

• 3 - 5 years' experience in area of specialty Required

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications:

• ACLS and BLS required

• Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of State Bureau of Occupational and Professional Affairs.
